The Man(aea) is back!
Three year deal. Pending physical yadda yadda.
Sean Manaea is staying in Queens.
He is signing a three-year deal worth $75 million to return to the Mets, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported early Monday morning.
Manaea, 32, enjoyed a career year this past season in his first campaign with the Mets, recording a 12-6 record and 3.47 ERA in the regular season and a 4.74 ERA in the postseason as the team reached the NLCS.

Stearns gets him at his price. I guess we are into the buyer’s market portion of the winter.
Re: The Man(aea) is back!
Yeah, I think Sean would have hoped for 5 years ?

That present came early.

What will the other days bring?

Very good news!
Mr. Alonso? Mr. Stearns will see you now.
Re: The Man(aea) is back!
Fangraphs projected Manaea at 3 and 60, so I wouldn't call it a buyers' market just yet. Plus Burnes is still going to get the eight years that Fried got, and I expect Sasaki will get quite a bit more than I'd give him as well.
Having said that, I am happy to have Manaea back and I hope last year was the beginning of a solid four-year run for him.

I hope not!
Let's see... Senga, Manaea, Peterson, Holmes, Montas. Hmmm...
I guess it would be a tight squeeze, but I think it could happen.

Good chance they'd go to a 6-man rotation, so there's room for Sasaki. Both he and Senga would do better on extra rest.

Re: The Man(aea) is back!
I'm not convinced that Senga is healthy enough to resume a regular spot in the rotation. Sasaki would be a good addition.

This almost certainly means that Quintana won't be coming back. No real surprise there, but he was a real contributor. I wouldn't have been at all sorry to see him return. I also wouldn't be surprised if he, wherever he ends up, has a better year in 2025 than Frankie Montas.
Re: The Man(aea) is back!
They are going to have a loaded rotation. No stand out greats in it, but I'd much rather have a bunch of #3s than a great #1 and four #5s. This is good news.

Re: The Man(aea) is back!
Sasaki will sign as an amateur free agent, so he'll be getting a little more than Griffin Canning buck$ from whoever signs him. Everything about this team has got to be appealing, you'd think. Marquee city, huge earning opportunities, Japanese mentor. He'd almost certainly be on a 6-man rotation here so he could acclimate a little easier and stay on something more resembling a Japanese schedule. The only thing working against the Mets is that New York isn't on the west coast. Let's hope he hates good Mexican food and traffic.
great googly moogly!

We have good Mexican food here and bad traffic too , win win

I was quite pleased when I saw this signing come over the wire. Hopefully, the changes he made to his delivery in 2024 will continue to give opposing hitters major problems.

Holmes is a reliever. Montas is…not that good? There’s plenty of room to upgrade the pitching staff.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:06 am I hope not!

Re: The Man(aea) is back!
They are going to try Holmes as a starter
In this day and age he doesn't have to be a horse to be effective in that role
I am accepting the idea that Stearns doesn't offer lengthy big money contracts to starting pitchers, Corbin Burnes will likely be an example of that
I will defer to Stearns given his track record, for now anyway
