So apparently in order to keep everything on a level playing field, all meetings between teams and Sasaki were held in his agent's office, were limited to two hours, and, yes, no players were to be present. So with Phase One of this process now complete, Sasaki has returned to Japan where he will start to prune his list. But before leaving he gave each team he met with a 'homework assignment'. Each team got the same assignment which was "to show how they can analyze and communicate information with him", says agent Joel Wolfe.

The window to sign begins on Jan 15. The Mets have $6.2 million in international pool money with which to form a bonus but $5.2 of that is reportedly committed to a 16 y/o SS, Elian Pena. However the agent has counseled Sasaki not to concentrate on the immediate bonus money as the difference between the ceiling and floor in each is going to make little difference in the grand scheme of things over his career.

So things start to get interesting two weeks from tomorrow on this topic. Of course that's assuming that the Mets don't get pink-slipped between now and then.
And if they do we can just blame it all on Jeff Wilpon. That won't solve anything but it will make us all feel better.

Once I read that Sasaki only wanted to meet with team executives, with NO team members present I felt they might lose him.
The Mets couldn't use Senga as a representative at the meeting.
So news that won't sign him doesn't come as a surprise to me.

That also meant the Padres couldn't bring Darvish or the Dodgers, Ohtani.
So I don't see how to see this as a negative to the Mets only.

Oh well. I guess I can hold out hope that he'll end up in the AL. But most likely he'll end up with the Dodgers or Padres.

But not being able to bring Senga wasn't a disadvantage at all since all interested teams were on the same level ground including
the site of each meeting, Sasaki's agent's offices.

Yanx have also been told that they are out btw., as have the Rangers & Giants.


That leaves the Dodgers, Padres, Cubs, and Blue Jays still standing from among those teams with which he previously met.
