Tom's eldest daughter has passed away from cancer in her mid-50s.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Parents (A parent in this case) outliving one of their children is always a lousy story no matter what the specific circumstances.
It's unfortunately become all too common in my family in recent years.
