Memories of Q

Post by Edgy MD » Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:38 pm

José Quintana, opening day starter in 2024, who suddenly became a horse and a half down the stretch, has signed with the Brewers of Milwaukee.

Only the second Met ever from Colombia, although for about two days there, he shared the roster with Colombian Met #3, Julio Teheran.

Five shutout innings in the game 4 clincher against the Phillies. Six shutout innings in the game 3 clincher prior to that against the Broo Croo.

Yes, I know, the Dodgers knocked him around in the NLCS, but they did that to lots of guys last fall.

Took the ball and more often than not had good results - a 3.70 ERA across 44 starts in 2023-2024.

Eddy Alvarez, I think.

I think the photo is probably from the September 11 solo homer in Toronto to break up the no-hitter/tie the game in the 9th inning.

One year and under $5M? Shit that would've been worth bringing him back for sure. Rotation depth and all.

I was guessing Alvarez, but it seemed like an unlikely unicorn spotting.

What I didn't spot was the FDNY logo behind the sunglasses on the caps. Good job.

Coming out of a bad stretch in August, he publicly said that he wanted to start games in the post-season, and knew he had to prove himself in order to get that responsibility, and then bam, went out and pounded out as strong a finish as anybody could have hoped for.

That's a 0.74 ERA.

I probably misremember this, but I feel like the Mets sent him and Severino home ahead of the team to rest for Games Three and Four of the Dodger series, and it inadvertently cost them all their OMG! mojo.

Was picked up to solidify a contending rotation in 2023, got hurt in Spring Training, comes back to find the Mets in break-it-down mode and pitches like a pro the rest of the way, with the limited Met offense treating him as if he were deGrom. Became my favorite Met of a lost year.

Before he put it back together down the stretch in 2024, threw one of the reassuring starts of April, lasting deep in what became the (first) Mark Vientos Game, vs STL, the Sunday afternoon when Mendy was ready to pull him, and Q said “I got this.” A big moment for both men, I thought.

If Jose doesn’t do his job so well in Milwaukee, Pete doesn’t necessarily hit one of the biggest homers in franchise postseason history.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Q was my least favorite character in various Star Trek shows.

When he came here I had read that he had the reputation of being a bullpen burner, pitching around 5 innings per start.
But he sure showed 'em, during that run that Edgy charted (above).
I would have liked him back, especially at that $5 million price.

Later

Apparently one did. He can't get away from the tell.
I have never insulted anyone. I simply describe them, accurately.

A good pitcher who could really help the Mets right now.

They should have brought back two of the three that kept them float in '24: Manaea, Quintana, Severino. But they brought back just one.
