Boston, he remembers, had the tastiest jerseys.

Wow! A pitcher who was more likely to close out a game with a large lead than with a tight one.
It was more diplomatic than saying I never trusted the fucker in a close game.Frayed Knot wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 2:24 pmWow! A pitcher who was more likely to close out a game with a large lead than with a tight one.
Has Mr. Ripley been contacted about this for his book?
I think Ottavino falls into the "what have you done lately" category. He was quite good in 2022, good in 2023, and very inconsistent in 2024. I don't know, he seemed to have lost confidence (at least to me) so maybe a change of venue can do him some good. His k's/9 and K/BB were still quite good last year, but the ERA and reliability were lacking.Gwreck wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 2:50 pm Much better pitcher than he got credit for.
Best seasons by a Mets reliever by WAR, last 25 years: Ottavino appears twice (along with Diaz, Wagner, Familia, and Reed):
Diaz, 2022: 3.2
Familia, 2015: 2.9
Loup, 2021: 2.8
Reed, 2017: 2.7
Looper, 2004: 2.4
Ottavino, 2022: 2.3
Hernandez, 2005: 2.2
Wagner, 2006: 2.2
Weathers, 2003: 2.2
Lugo, 2019: 2.1
Benitez, 2002: 2.0
Feliciano, 2006: 1.9
Familia, 2016: 1.8
Robertson 2023: 1.8
Rodriguez, 2010: 1.8
Reed, 2017: 1.7
Wagner, 2007: 1.7
Guthrie, 2002: 1.6
Diaz, 2020: 1.4
Stanton, 2004: 1.4
Blevins, 2017: 1.3
Ottavino, 2023: 1.3
Parnell, 2012, 1.3
Raley, 2023: 1.3
And you've been wrong every time you've said it.MFS62 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 2:49 pmIt was more diplomatic than saying I never trusted the fucker in a close game.Frayed Knot wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 2:24 pmWow!
