How Will He Thrive in Twenty-Five?: Starling Marte

Post by Edgy MD » Mon Mar 31, 2025 2:25 pm

The HWHTi25? series continues into the regular season, at least until we account for the players on the Opening-Day roster. And one of those players is the guy who was the big offensive get at the end of the 2021 season, one of four Mets All-Stars from 2022, but now time and injuries and gravity have reduced to a guy trying to fit into a supportive role and projected by ZIPs for a single fWAR.

No small amount of people might have predicted that he would be traded by the end of spring or put on the IL for an extended period, but both those options are now off the table, as you and you alone (along with your fellow Poolers) are called on to pre-visualize the 2025 outcomes of Starling Marte.

Starling's numbers will not be startling.
.260-5-25 in limited action.

Astoundingly, he's in his fourth year with the club. He was supposed to be a meaningful piece early on, but as it has just kept chugging along, he's quickly been replaced and become an afterthought.

Whatever we get from him will be a boon. Average his 2023 and 2024 and you'll get his 2025:

90 G, 6 HR, 34 RBI, 20 SB, .258 BA.
