Fear, hate, meh, kind of like
Which would you attach, if you were forced to, to each opponent, Nats, Braves, Phils, Fish?
Are you curious who the woman in my avatar is? She has nothing to do with the Mets but everything to do with this website.

I don't really have any emotions about any of them. I just, pragmatically, want them to lose as often as possible because they're division rivals.

I take the Conan approach to every team the Mets play:
"Defeat your enemies
Drive them before you
Hear the lamentations of their women"
Except for those teams that left New York for the West Coast.
I would treat them more harshly than that.

On any given day, I like the team that's playing one of the
four teams. If two of them are playing each other, I like the
one with fewer wins. Hell, I don't even hate the Yankees any
more. Well, maybe the 2000 Yankees...

I fear and hate the Braves. Too many years of bad memories.
I don’t like Philadelphia. But it’s not close to the disdain I have for the Braves.
I’m meh about Washington or the Nats. I’d have no issue rooting for them to beat a team we’re fighting for the wild card.

My fandom has gone so mellow I don't mind any team, I just like the Mets more than the rest. I have friends, colleagues & relatives who are fans of many teams, visited many stadiums and met nice people there. I even sort of understand Yankees fans now.
I have some secondary rooting interests. I kinda like the Orioles and Giants, and the Blue Jays, and I like the White Sox more than the Cubs. Everyone else, it's just baseball.

I have no feelings toward them, the only feeling I have is for the Mets.

FWIW, there are members of internet Met fan communities that want the Nats rivalry to still be as white hot as it was in 15-16 based on the usual squawking done by both teams and fans back then, and of course the “rivalry” between Matt Harvey and Stephen Strasburg.roger_that wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 11:06 am I am deciding that this Forum is composed of rules-defiers, sufferers of Oppositional Defiance Disorder, contrarians, and men who don't take out the trash when their spouse wants them to.
Ditto the Marlins who’ve always seem to play well above their record at the time when the Mets are playing them, and chirp about enjoying beating us or spoiling our chances for whatever we are going for at the time.
Older fans probably still want to keep the fires burning for the 1980s rivalries with the Cardinals and Cubs (sure Cub fans from back then still rue the collapse, and then being steamrolled over in 1969.
Phillies at least are the natural-est of all divisional, and NL wide opponents, and have been so since day one in 1962. It helps being a 2 and a half hour ballpark-to-ballpark drive. So even if both teams are putrid, or just one of them are, in a given season, you’ll still have rivalry feels within the fanbases.
The Braves have quite literally not been embarrassingly bad, or mediocre for long enough periods since 1994, their first year as division rivals for them to fade from the idea of still being a bitterly hated opponent of the Mets the way both the Phillies and Expos/Nationals have done in cycles since the NL East’s beginning in 1969.
So you will see a lot more current, and loud/trollish fan community members really go all in on the hatred of the upper tier division teams, and a more general “they are our division rivals, I hate them equally” blasé attitude from those following the team much more closely and for longer periods than about a decade.

Re: Fear, hate, meh, kind of like
Braves: hate the culture, hate the chop, hate them fleeing a perfectly good and perfectly young ballpark for the suburbs of Cobb County. I hate how I can't figure out what the deal is with their right field seats, but they look like some sort of giant galvanized metal press box.
Phils: hate the hostility, hate the racial hangups that always seems to follow them around, hate the lionization of the ridiculous 1993 team.
Nats: hate the unis, hate the suburban Virginia bandwagon jumping fans copying their hostility from studied hostility the Phils fans brought to their park, hate the flyovers and empty patriotism, hate the crappy contemporary country music.
Marlins: hate their unwillingness to just be what they're going to be, constantly churning through uniforms, parks, affiliations, managers and rosters.
Mostly I just want the Mets to win. There is a lot to like in most teams, and most of them have at least a little bit of Octavio Dotel in their story.

In a modern non-Met context, I’ve drifted into “hey, good for them” at odd postseason intervals for the Nationals in 2019, the Marlins in 2020, and the Phillies in 2022. Which is not to say I like any of them — or the Braves ever at all (1982/1991 NL West affinity notwithstanding).
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Right on!
I haven't been to the new place, but attended several games at the Ted.
I enjoyed the stadium and the view of downtown Atlanta.
And the parking was fine and the food was good (I got carded to buy a beer, though).
There was a little backup when leaving the lots, but nothing to compare with leaving Citi or Shea.
I can't figure out why they wanted to move.

Metro Atlanta is known for its traffic issues, but the area where the new stadium is located is hardly any better. It's an area with a mix of office, commercial, and residential spaces so it's got to be a nightmare for anyone who needs to be there for reasons other than a ballgame in or around game time.

A true understatement.
I was there almost ten years apart and the same construction traffic cones on the highway passing the Ted hadn't moved. An inch.

Re: Fear, hate, meh, kind of like
That is a collection of second-, third- and fourth- rate franchises. I pay them no mind except when they face the Mets. During their interactions with the Mets, their fanbases have collectively proven themselves to be irrationally paranoid and/angry, woefully misguided, racist, and/or non-existent. They are generally unworthy of attention unless necessary to maintain personal safety.

Re: Fear, hate, meh, kind of like
My fondness for the Marlins has been stated before. I like to visit parks, and if I have a really nice time I develop a bit of an interest in them. I've been to PNC three years in a row and love seeing the Pirates despite the team sucking. I got to see them play the Yankees in the first of those three -- Yankee fans will darn near ruin an experience wherever you encounter them -- and it was glorious when Judge whiffed to end the game with the winning runs aboard.
I've enjoyed the White Sox since the Seaver days, and had some adventures at the old Comiskey. We had a fantastic time at Target Field and I've been keeping an eye on them.
Planning to go to Baltimore and Seattle this summer. I see the Tigers three or four times a year, and follow them a little.
The only team I really hate is the Yankees.

I’m having trouble deciding who I want to win the Phillies Braves game. On the one hand it would be nice to be in first place. But it would be nice to see Atlanta buried.
