IGT 4/8/2025 (#11): MIA@NYM — Six in the Citi

Post by G-Fafif » Mon Apr 07, 2025 10:34 pm

Mets seek their sixth consecutive win at 4:10 PM on SNY (or at chilly, windy Citi Field, if you dare). Connor Gillispie taking on Clay Holmes summons to mind Unit 4 + 2…which happens to add up to 6!

Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Should be around 40° by 4:10 with 15-25 mph winds and
40 mph gusts.

Depending which way the wind is blowing, it sounds like either the hitters or the pitchers will like it.

Kinda strange platoon system Mendoza's got there, Marte (r) over Winker (L) but Baty (L) playing instead of Acuna (R)

You can't stop Hayden Senger, you can only hope to contain him.

Pete ties it up with a windblown double.

Nice knock by Nimmo. Missed the first few innings but caught the 4th in the car and home for the remainder

Let's see how long Holmes can go.
77 pitches through 5 innings so far.

Brazoban fails to put out the fire. Though I didn't think that home run was going out, it definitely had a bit of wind under it.

Is Winker hurt? Marte in this lineup makes no sense to me.

How did Holmes look. As bad as his line?

Had a bad first inning for two runs and in the sixth, he left and Brazoban gave up the inherited runners. In between he looked pretty good. Overall I'd say he looked better than the stat line.

That Holmes pitched better than his stat line was Zeile's main post-game point. Keith's too.
The two runs in the first inning were (wind-blown) BLOOP - WALK - WALK - BLOOP. So the walks are on him but also some bad luck and conditions.
In the 6th he got jobbed on a 3-2 pitch for a one-out walk, then a legit double ended his day. An RBI GO followed by a 2R HR off Brazoban then all went on Holmes record.
Overall he struck out 10 with 5 hits (at least three of which were soft) and the 3 walks.

In-game thought: Shouldn't Clay Holmes play for a team called the Pueblo Indians?

I wonder if anyone has yet had him take a photo with Glenn Sherlock.
