Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.
Re: Beltran Watch
https://wfan.radio.com/articles/news/me ... os-beltranAccording to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Mets are “wavering” on whether they should stick by Beltran in the wake of these scandals. Olney broke the news on Sportscenter on Wednesday.

A video also surfaced this morning of Joey Cora remarking how Beltran was the MFYs most valuable acquisition (wink!) after they racked up dozens of runs over two games during the London series.
Re: Beltran Watch
I was honestly looking forward to having him manage the team, but the more I think about it, the more I fall on the side of letting him go. There are just too many questions.

Re: Beltran Watch
He's in danger of being Wally Backmanned.
So... if he gets fired before the season starts, does he retain his position as the 22nd Mets manager, with the new guy being number 23, or is it like it never happened, and the new guy will be 22? I know someone who maintains a Mets database, and he may have to make some kind of determination regarding how to record this.

Re: Beltran Watch
I would say that it never happened. Just as someone who manages one game gets to be called a manager even if he is an interim, I think someone who manages no games doesn't get to be called one.
Re: Beltran Watch
I'd say at least one pitch has to be thrown or it never happened.

I’d wait to see what official (MLB, Mets) listings say. Backman isn’t listed as a Diamondback skipper.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 3:47 pm He's in danger of being Wally Backmanned.

Hell, Bill Belichek is never called a “former HC of the NYJ” or listed among Jet Head Coaches despite his infamous resignation note and press conference!

Re: Beltran Watch
It does make sense to refer to Wally Backman and Arizona as a precedent.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Beltran Watch
Journalism in 2020: NJ.com is quoting someone who claims to be Beltran's niece tweeting that he is resigning as Mets manager.
Re: Beltran Watch
I don't anyone thinks it's journalism, they're simply reporting stuff that was tweeted.
Your prez's tweets are reported on hourly many day, no one thinks that's journalism
either.

If he does resign, I would hope that at least one of the tabloids would have a headline of VANISH TAKEE!

I know this is a dumb question, but I was away from the news for a while. What exactly were the electronic tools the Astros used to steal signs?

Re: Beltran Watch
If the Mets fire him, I'm going to be interested to see if they also release JD Davis.
And if not, an explanation as to why there is different treatment for the 2017 teammates.

Re: Beltran Watch
As a big fan of the Jets' Bill Belichick era, I'm not down with the pretend-it-never-happened strategy. Beltran got to do stuff. He got to use the parking space and cards printed and help recruit Brian Schneider and Dellin Betances and stuff. Tim Tebow spent the whole offseason trying to re-work his whole marketing strategy without the number 15.
Hensley Muelens became the Mets bench coach and Eduardo Perez had to take the offer from TCBY, while Tim Bogar bought up tickets to follow the big Third Eye Blind tour through the spring into the summer. These things happened, man. They did.

I mean, he's an asterisk. Hired-but-never-managed.
Anyway, more importantly, if Beltran is out... who's likely in? Luis Rojas? Tony DeFrancesco? Mike Bell?

Well JDD wasn't mentioned in the report, I think Manfred including Beltran was a signal to the Mets to take action; Fred always does what the commish wants; and probably would prefer to have Terry back anyhow.Centerfield wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 6:09 pm If the Mets fire him, I'm going to be interested to see if they also release JD Davis.

I think he would but won't get the offer. I think Fred goes all in on Terry. Loves old white guys and more suspicious than ever of everyone else.

No word overnight, but Jim Kern and Jorge Orta are reportedly excited to play for Carlos Beltran.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 3:47 pm He's in danger of being Wally Backmanned.

This would be the most amazing thing ever to happen in journalism and would pre-emptively win the 2020 Headline Contest immediately.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 6:07 pm If he does resign, I would hope that at least one of the tabloids would have a headline of VANISH TAKEE!
