or this

Where would they put them?
Some teams have been stacking two patches (club patch on the bottom, in-memoriam patch above, for example), but it looks predictably clunky.

The Mets should change the colors and the shape. The Angels did it better, with a rectangle logo in a rectangle patch.

Because maybe that was the preferred patch and they had a backup plan in case of a very bad fan reaction.
That's still reacting.

Steve's this great art collector, I hear. The idea that this aesthetically inept rendering that damages multiple brands was considered and chosen among several options by design and branding professionals operating in a well functioning organization is ... not an encouraging thought.

I just think we live in a world without leadership. We're all toadies, and if any toady on the Mets or NYP payroll got the notion that somebody above him or herself was way off in patch design and deployment, he or she kept it to him- or herself.

Doing something we know sucks while hoping nobody cares, and then going with Plan B and hoping folks quickly forget, is certainly no less deflating.

I'd like to take a moment to apologize for everything I ever said, wrote, or thought about the Citi Field logo.

That patch is bigger than the Mets skyline logo patch. The team should change its name to the New York Presbyterians.

It might help them increase attendance from the all-important Scottish-American demographic.

It's completely indecipherable from the center field camera. It looks like a mistake, which I guess is kinda what it is.

Funnily enough I am not noticing the awful NYPD patch on these uniforms as much as I am the ADT on the Marlins, I'm sure the NYP patch will stick out more on the road uni and the black uni

They should have velcro on the NYPresb patches. This way, the switch-hitters could switch-patch-sleeves when they switch batting sides in mid-game. Then viewers would always have a good view of the NYPresb patch.

That's not bending over backwards to advertise a business partner. That's just bending over.

But then what would happen when they switch from the center field camera to the behind-home-plate camera? That would screw up the viewers' view of the NYPresb patch.

Here's a solution. Instead of NYPersby patches, they could just hologram the NYPresby patch so that it's always seen on TV. Like those ads that TV viewers see but aren't really there. Of course, then fans attending the game in person won't see the hologramed patch. The solution for that is to make fans in attendance wear special glasses like the 3D movies glasses of the 50s -- only these stadium glasses would make the hologram visible and then the fans could see the patch too. It'd work for outfield wall ads too. Instead of real ads, the ads would be hologrammed. Then they could change ads coinstantly and teams could get more sponsors in there, too. And a sucky team like the Pirates, they could hologram their past star players to replace their current active players. A hologram of Willie Stargell blasting a tape-measure HR followed by a back-to-backer by Barry Bonds. I guess they could hologram the scoreboard to make up a winning score, too. The possibilities are endless.

Don’t give them any ideas on 9/11 memorial day! There’s been enough “controversies” with first responder organization caps over years!

Six years to go before the Citi Field naming rights contract ends. If Cohen's still around, he should do the right thing and name the stadium Mets Stadium. (If he really wants to be like the Dodgers. (And the Yankees, though he's smart enough not to openly admit that part.))

Unless Cohen's got ideas for something brand new altogether. I mean, that humongous new scoreboard is a beaut -- but it's been obviously shoehorned into the space, which wasn't meant for a scoreboard that big. Sigh. Citi Field looks like it was originally designed by a 10 year old.

A strange thing is that the Mets seem to now be in bed with multiple healthcare organizations —
  • NY Presbyterian,
  • Northwell Health (parent of Long Island Jewish and the Katz Women's Center),
  • Catholic Health (at some level, I think), and
  • The Hospital for Special Surgery (affiliated with NY-Pres, I think, but not under their umbrella).

The only one I remember them actually using is the Hospital for Special Surgery.
The others may just be sponsors. No?

HSS is a member of the NYP healthcare system, I know this as years ago my son's cardiologist sent us to HSS when we needed to see a spine specialist , although I think the main affiliation is with Weill Cornell, which is of course part of NYP

No problem. There's still plenty of room for more medical institution patches bigger than your head on the Msts uni. On the front. On the back. Under the Mets wordmark. Between the buttons. And over the ass. That's just for starters. Just, please, not in Phillies red.
