It's been the preferred number for assignment to transients since Jacob Rhame, and it ain't like Rhame was a long-hauler: Jared Hughes, Trevor Hildenberger, Brandon Drury, Colin Holderman, Perez (h/t MBTN/UMDB for the refresher). Adam Wilk was 35 for one infamous Harvey-suspended day between Logan Verrett and Rhame. You have to back to Dillon Gee for a 35 with a modicum or more of distinction.

I'm not at all convinced that throwing money at pitchers is the best way to go right now. Scherzer wasn't worth his salary last year, and Verlander has to duplicate last year twice to be worth his.

That being said, I've always been a fan and if there's any chance of him getting to 300 in a Mets uniform..

apparently, he needs to pitch 140 innings in '24 for the option to vest. that should hopefully be a low bar.

I remember Max throwing 5 IP in his first spring start and *shocker* he tired down the stretch. Mets need to run a 6-man rotation or just cap his ass at 80 pitches per start til June 1.
