I'll take Odd Injuries to Wealthy Metropolitans for $600 please.

Answer is, This Met injured his patellar tendon doing the bunny hop.

Who is Edwin Diaz?

Dingdingdingding...
Edwin Díaz will undergo surgery Thursday to repair a right patellar tendon tear, announced Mets general manager Billy Eppler.

Brutal. The all-world closer actually suffered a "full thickness" tear of his patellar tendon during a rather innocuous celebration with Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic on Wednesday. It's just bad luck all around. Eppler added that a more specific timeline will be known after the surgery, but the general timetable is around eight months before a return to action, which obviously rules Díaz out for the 2023 season. It's a terrible blow for a Mets team which has World Series aspirations, but now they will have to move ahead with the team that they have, though it's likely they'll look for in-season improvements. For now, David Robertson moves to the forefront for save chances.

I think that the players in the WBC are insured so the Mets will be reimbursed for Edwin's salary.

Well, that's a gut punch. Cutting and pasting with Robertson and Ottavino is probably where they go. Some other bullpenny types are going to have to step up.

I'd just hand the job to Bryce Montes de Oca but I think he got hurt too

I imagine all teams also have umbrella policies over other umbrella
policies for such train wrecks. Last thing I'm thinking about is the $$.

Around the one-minute mark, Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers celebrate winning Game Seven of the 1965 World Series like they have to prepare for Game Eight.

Look at all of those sexy, intact, ACLs and MCLs. I'm harder than a diamond in an ice storm right now.
Yeah but now I’m reminded that the Dodger pitcher in that clip only had one more year left in that left arm of his 😑

I don't think the job goes to anybud. Or, at least, it shouldn't go to anybody right off. Drew Smith, Adam Ottavino, Robertson, John Curtiss ... let 'em all pitch and see whose performance elevates them.

David Peterson might walk out of 2023 as the team's save leader.

i dont think there should be any hurry to name a closer, just let Buck use who he wants to use when he wants to use them

Stroman, always the first guy I think of when I want a drama-free sensible take. Stro is on team Puerto Rico after previously repping the USA

It's time for all of us to pretend Diaz never existed, and don't get too excited for '24.

Which really adds to the sense that eligibility for these teams is a bit of a joke to avoid the fact that not many nations really play baseball at a serious level - we need a U.S. territory to fill out one of the teams and anyone who has ever attended a bar mitzvah can play on another one.

Well, while I certainly reject players jumping national teams, Puerto Rico regularly participates on the international athletic stage (The Olympic Games, The Pan-American Games, World Cup Soccer, The Little League World Series, etc.) as a separate entity from The United States.

Mets confirm Edwin, despite his progress, will not pitch in what’s left of this season.

Since this is about dominant New York relievers, this popped up in my Facebook memories today-
October 7, 2016 ·
The Mets had two Riveras on the field but none in the bullpen.
I couldn't figure out what other thread it belonged in.
Hurry back, Edwin.
