Omigosh. You're absolutely right.

I started out including guys who came close (Cleon hit .297 in 1968) and also guys who didn't come close to qualifying for the batting title (Jesse Gonder, Chris Cannizzaro) but realized that was way too much work and not that interesting. But Cleon's .1968 looked as if it made sense but it didn't. So we're back to 42 times now. Thanks.

Are you curious who the woman in my avatar is? She has nothing to do with the Mets but everything to do with this website.

Daniel Murphy hit over .300 2 or 3 times as a Met.
