Going through the motions?! Hey, there was a groundout to Alonso and Ottavino went over and covered first!
Relievers are apparently allowed to do that!!

Meh.
89 wins.
It's not 90.
Oh well, we're going to the postseason.
See ya in Milwaukee!

What a weird day of baseball.
Both teams playing for the right to limp exhausted into another town with the deck stacked against them in a road series.

Feels good to know that we won the game where both teams went all out, and they won the leftover game.

Exactly right. Game one was the real game. The Braves backed in.

Are the Diamondbacks the first team to miss the postseason because of a tiebreaker?

Bobby Thomson's "The Giants win the pennant" HR to eliminate Brooklyn was in a tiebreaker. (The Shot Heard 'Round the World).Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 8:12 pm Are the Diamondbacks the first team to miss the postseason because of a tiebreaker?
Re: IGT 9/30/2024-2: NYM@ATL — No More (But More)
Even more than that - I had no confidence that the Mets could come back in a game 2 having lost a tough, deflating game 1. That's historically been a roll over & be dead kind of spot for themCenterfield wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:28 pmChad ochoseis wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:24 pm Feels good to know that we won the game where both teams went all out, and they won the leftover game.

That's not what I meant. Oh. You meant the current tiebreakers, that aren't games any more, but formulas, right?Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 9:56 pmThat's not what I meant. That's right.

Yes. The no-tiebreaker-games rule was only put in place in 2022. The ties that have been broken since then are:Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 8:12 pm Are the Diamondbacks the first team to miss the postseason because of a tiebreaker?
2022 NL East: Braves win division/#2 seed, Mets get wild card (#4 seed)
2023 AL West: Houston wins division/#2 seed, Texas gets wild card (#5 seed)
2023 NL Wild Cards: tiebreak determined that Miami got #5 seed and Arizona #6 seed (but both teams would have made it anyway)
2024 NL Wild Cards: we all know what just happened.
