My Yankee/Diamondback was Randy Johnson. That kind of put me in a bind, because I then needed a 3000-strikeout Diamondback. Torn between Curt Schilling and Zack Greinke, I gakked when I went for the latter. Greinke is currently sitting at 2,979.

In other words, he's within a Mark Prior start of 3,000 strikeouts.

I had two failed attempts at the Reds 20-game winner. Apparently neither Tom Seaver nor Don Gullett ever won 20 in Cincinnati.

With one exception that was even earlier I went all '60's and '70's and '80's for todays:

CIN/LAA Dave Parker 3%
CIN/20+ Jim Maloney 5%
CIN/30+ Vada Pinson 0.6%
PIT/LAA John Candelaria 5%
PIT/20 Bob Friend 5%
PIT/30 Omar Moreno 9%
SF/LAA Jim Barr 0.7%
SF/20 Carl Hubbell 3%
SF/30 Bill North 0.8%

Rarity Score 32

I use Vada Pinson as often as I can since my Little League mitt was a Vada Pinson autograph model. He was also a really good player. Barr and North came from living in the Bay Area when they were Giants.

I could have stared at that Angels column for the next six weeks without coming up with a single answer.

I wouldn't normally expect to get the whole grid when all 9 boxes are two team combos but I got it today.

Yeah, me too. It helped that none of the teams were expansion teams.

I immaculated too, although five of my nine answers turned out to be the most popular choices in their respective box.

Rarity of 26 today:

STL/HOU Octavio Dotel 4%
STL/BAL Ty Wigginton 0.8%
STL/AS Kent Bottenfield 0.2%
SEA/HOU Jeffrey Leonard 0.4%
SEA/BAL Jamie Moyer 8%
SEA/AS Dan Wilson 0.8%
MIA/HOU Preston Wilson 2%
MIA/BAL Bobby Bonilla 7%
MIA/AS Luis Castillo 2%

5 of 9 for Met connections. I like it when All-Star appearances are a category as there are so many mediocre players who had a good half season one year (see Bottenfield. Kent).

PHI/MIL = Jean Segura
PHI/BOS = Craig Kimbrel
PHI/HOF = Jim Bunning

ANA/MIL = Tommy Davis
ANA/BOS = Fred Lynn
ANA/HOF = Rod Carew

PIT/MIL = Jeromy Burnitz
PIT/BOS = Rich Hill
PIT/HOF = Ralph Kiner

Hill & Davis were total shots in the dark.
I have no idea how to transfer the grid over to here. Every attempt fails miserably.

Turns out that the year Rico Carty hit .366 for the Braves he missed 25 games and notched only 175 hits ... so that blew my immaculateness.

I will almost surely never beat a Rarity Score of 9. The Sub3.00 ERA line makes it easy to put in relievers or pitchers who didn't pitch much just as the 1 team one would be easy for one-time call-ups (not that I used any of those, just thought of it later).

I got 9 today but my only rare picks were Orosco Cle-Min and Rene Rivera Min-Was. If one could learn their defensive backup catchers you'd go a long way in this game
