New Towns, New Threads, New Homes, New Beds: Offseason Transactions in 2023-2024

Post by Edgy MD » Wed Nov 22, 2023 10:34 am

A thread is born to celebrate the reported signing of ... Paul DeJong! Paul is the new shortstop for the Chicago White Sox.

The Sox are replacing Tim Anderson, whose career started off strong but had turned stinky in the recent past, with DeJong, whose career started off strong but had turned stinky in the recent past. Most recently PDJ spent 2023 with three teams, St. Louis, Toronto, and San Francisco — and was pretty farty in all three. He seems to be very much the quintessence of the contemporary baseballer, who decides to trade his contact rate for increases in power, and after some initial success, winds up with neither. He's a good cautionary tale for Brandon Nimmo.

But hey, he's a White Sock now!

The exploding name on the back of the jersey seems to be the latest innovation in uniform technology.

And long overdue, I might add!

Thee have been several Cardinal uniforms I wish had exploded, with the players in them.

2/24 for Maeda is a very good deal. Wish we had explored him at that price and for that duration

The Mets could be hammering out an all-Nippon rotation.

Yang & Sawx pull off a rare trade (8th time since the division era began in 1969) which sees Alex Verdugo heading Bronx-ward in
exchange for three RH pitchers of varying experience and/or promise. Verdugo, 28 y/o, who went to Boston in February 2020 as part
of the package for Mookie Betts and can be a FA after this coming season, is part of the MFY plan to remake their OF and surround
Aaron Judge with LH hitters. That remodeling may also involve one Juan Soto as talks between them and Sandy Eggo continue.

And let's congratulate Isiah Kiner-Falefa on ditching his Yankee address for the friendly confines of the Rogers Center.

My question is how well his defense (6.9dWAR) will play on the turf of the Rogers Centre.
