The Great Pitching Carousel

2017 was the year I really noticed the Mets started using a TON of pitchers; It seemed like every other day, they were bringing someone new on board and rotating someone else out. And that trend seemed to continue, and continue, and continue to about 2022, when it looked like it abated a bit. Boy, was I wrong!

Using Stathead, I decided to see how many pitchers the Mets used in each five-year span going back to 2006-2010.

From 2017 to 2021, the Mets used 99 pitchers. From 2020 to 2024, they used 110—so far.

I'm counting 111 from 2020 on, although that's including the likes of Todd Frazier and Kevin Pillar.

I probably double-counted some guy.

Amazingly, during that period, the Mets have deployed on the mound four distinct guys named "Trevor."

I've not seen too many Mets games in person, but I was at Donnie Hart's one and only Mets game in Pittsburgh.
