- Mookie Betts, broken hand (HBP). No definite, or even indefinite, timetable is announced.
- also involving LAD, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will deal with a 'strained rotator cuff' while sitting on the IL
Remember when the words 'rotator cuff', not elbow ligament, was the scariest thing to hear about one of your pitchers?
After a rough ML debut (back in South Korea in late March) Y^2 had been pitching well but he might not be heard from for the next month or two.
- Anthony Rizzo (NYY) fractured forearm after a Sunday night collision. Four to six weeks is the early favorite.
On the flip side, Trea Turner returns tonight, and Gerritt Cole will make his first start of the season on Wednesday vs Baltimore.
- Paul Skenes started tonight against Cincy. The Reds scored the first run Skenes has allowed in the 1st inning during his
brief ML career. They haven't scored since. 4-1 Pirates, top 7
Phils are hosting the Padres to start the week.
Braves hosting Tigers
Marlins hosting StL
Nats welcome the Snakes (starting tomorrow).

We didn't even have the biggest comeback of the night on Tuesday.
The Dodgers, down 9-4 entering the 9th in Colorado, got a Jayson Hayward GS to make it 9-8. Then, with two on/two out/two strikes, the
Rox did NOT get a half-swing call on Teoscar Hernandez which would have ended the game. Not surprisingly they were pissed at the non-call with
mgr Bud Black getting run. But they got even more pissed with Hernandez hit the next pitch over the fence. 11-9 LAD
Call could have gone either way IMO but 1b ump Lance Barksdale had the only opinion that mattered.
Ongoing in Philly, Brandon Marsh just whiffed on a 2-out/8th inning blooper to CF allowing a trio of Padres to cross the plate for a 5-1 SDP lead as
the ball rolled behind him. A Harper HR in bottom 8 makes it 5-2 as they head to the 9th. Pads trying to end a nine game road losing streak.

Hayward seems like he's been around forever

Hit a 3R HR on the 3rd ML pitch he saw off Carlos Zambrano on Opening Day 2010 for the Braves at the age of 20.
So, yeah.
Phils lose.

Verlander to the IL with a stiff neck.
Verlander + Scherzer starts this season = 10 (all by JV)
Kimberly can't protect a one-run lead in the 9th so Yanx and O's head to the 10th tied at 5
Clown Car rules are now in effect.

O's score twice in top 10 ... but can they hold it?

Yanx score once in bottom 10 but a CS and a K end it.
Orioles 7 - Yanx 6

In tonight's Rickwood Field game in Birmingham, AL [SFG v StL, 7:15 FOX] there's got to be some kind of penalty for any CF'er Not making a basket catch.
- all runners advance, substantial fine, etc.

Orioles thumping the Yanx to the tune of 12-5 after 6.
Rookie phenom Luis Gil was on the business end of most of that whoopin', giving up 7 earned on 8 hits/2 BB in just 1-1/3 innings.
O's have 12 hits, 5 walks plus 3 NYY errors thrown in and they could be heading for 20 but are merely 5/18 w/RiSP and have left 10 on.
And now it's 14-5

And your final was 17 (on 19 hits) to 5.
Drive home safely.

More important than the blowout is that today's game made it two of three for the Baltimores in an important mid-season showdown.

Yanx loss today means they've now lost their last three series [ATL, BAL, BOS - all two-of-three] and four of their last five [3-1 v KCR, 1-2 v LAD]
Annnnnd, they've also lost Giancarlo Stanton to the IL for an estimated four weeks with a hamstring pull.
I guess this means newly acquired JD Davis hops right into the (mostly) everyday DH slot.

I'm hoping that means that tougher competition doesn't bring out the Yanks' best.
I'm also hoping that the Mets will be tougher competition.

Their pitching, both the starters and the pen, aren't matching what they did in the first two months (they couldn't possibly) even though the return of Gerritt Cole should be a pick-me-up.

Not for the faint of heart, but Amed Rosario is nearly beheaded by a pitch here.
Also, sort of a confused uni concept for Pittsburgh. If you're going to bring back the pillbox hats and the performance stars, bring 'em back.
