Yeah, I'm kinda 4/5's out of the loop on the Grimace gaga.

Someone enlighten us!

Everybody's favorite shake-endorsing anthropomorphic mascot character threw out the first pitch in one of the games on the last homestand. It was as ridiculous as it sounds, and it would have been an LOLMETS moment (especially as he has the wrong glove) had they had their heads handed to them.

But they didn't. They won, and they've been undefeated ever since, so its a thing.

Don't look at me that way. None of this was my doing.

I would argue that the real turning point in the Mets' fortunes was Torrens giving up his body to make the game-saving double play, but I guess Grimace makes for better clickbait. Kind of like the black cat in 1969.

That's a great point! Other reasons for the surge:

Lindor in the leadoff spot.
Alvarez returning.
Vientos getting a chance to play.
Diaz getting back on track.
Benching McNeil to get him back on track, or at least a little better.

Me shaving my beard off.
I can't remember the exact date but it more or less coincided with their turn-around.
The whole cause-and-effect thing is a bit shaky but I'm going to take credit anyway.

Lol whatever it takes!

I remember in 1986 I had to do lunges during the entire postseason because it was lucky for the Mets.

Thanks for the Grimace info!

I say each year we can just send Ben to Peru. No one listens.

I read that the Mets are 17-1 in the last 18 in which Francisco Alvarez appeared. If true, that's damn impressive.

Maybe the Álvarez Éffect was more potent when we didn't realize it.

As I posted in the 6/18 IGT thread, it was up to 18-1 before the mojo stopped (hopefully temporarily) last night.

Please merge if there is already a Grimace thread I don't see

How the heck is this an ok headline?

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article ... night.html

Just in case they change it, it currently says "The Gay Grimace Mets Will Ram Pride Night Like a Big Purple Truck"

Wow, still haven't changed it. I had no idea Grimace was a gay icon, but there ya go.

The Grimace chugging the 24 ounce beer was impressive, though. Teams latch on to silly things sometimes (remember the Angels' Rally Squirrel?), but hey, whatever works.

Grimace has been gay since his inception. Like many gay people, I imagine

I'm into dumb things teams can latch onto, even when they suck like Robin Ventura and "Mojo Risin"

Today is also the day that Jose Iglesias' OMG song is released the team has already adopted it as the home run song

The Mojo was Risin’ on the field as well as the PA system when “L.A. Woman” took over in the late summer of 1999. Jim Morrison scored Melvin Mora scoring in the game that sent them to the Wild Card play-in.

These things gain traction with winning and disappear with losing. “The Way You Move” by OutKast was Shea’s greatest hit in the portion of 2004 that the Mets rose from the ashes to the thick of the NL East race in June and July, spurred by Mike Cameron and Cliff Floyd blasting it in the clubhouse. As the season wound down, with the Mets having evaporated competitively, it had already faded into obscurity Metwise.

“OMG” + Grimace + the team meeting = whatever works. Keep it up!

if not... what the fuck is up with teh girl in the ring? is this some sort of super-expensive rich-people thing that i'm just too ordinary to understand?

also, wow. pete dances about exactly like i would expect a very white polar bear to dance. and dresses the part.

lfgm. omg.

It's about eight times better than any track José Reyes ever dropped.

Rally Pimp = ancient history.

I took a minor shit at the end there when I saw Edwin Diaz in the middle of that scrum just like with Team Puerto Rico.

Youse made me watch the video. I was purposely avoiding it as well as the OMG song itself, video or no video because I was sure it would make me cringe with embarrassment for them. I think I was right. I didn't even get to the part about Alonso dancing. I can't even imagine that.
