June 26: RHP Drew Smith diagnosed with right elbow sprain; RHP Ty Adcock selected from Triple-A Syracuse
MLB.com: As his teammates prepared for batting practice at Citi Field on Wednesday afternoon, Smith hurriedly dressed in street clothes and exited through a back door. He was heading for Manhattan and an MRI on his right forearm, which has been bothering him the past couple of days.
A few hours later, he had his diagnosis of a right elbow sprain. The Mets placed Smith on the 15-day injured list and called up Adcock to replace him.
Smith had trouble getting loose after he entered in relief of Edwin Díaz on Sunday, when the latter was suspended for a sticky substance violation. Although Smith had all the time he wanted to warm up, he said he regretted rushing the process. It was not until Wednesday, however, that Smith felt enough forearm tightness for the Mets send him for an MRI.
Adcock, 27, held a 3.12 ERA over eight appearances at Syracuse.
