Memories of Josh Walker

I guess I kind of thought he'd be the lefthanded Drew Smith — repeatedly called up and sent down over the course of years, having some good visits, but never timed at a particular moment of need to allow him to stick. But he didn't even get to be that, passed on the depth chart by Matt Gage and Young Brothers (live at The Knitting Factory!).

Josh hasn't been activated yet by the Pirates, but they used five guys last night, with old buddy Colin Holderman taking the loss, so I suspect they'll be calling on him soon.

It appears that the Mets and Pirates like to swap guys named Walker. With Josh and Neil, we've established a pattern of two.

I'm going to take a leap of faith and guess that he was the best 91 the Mets have ever had.

He had a couple of moments of glory (if you want to call them that, given the nature of the cover) in the 2023 Tabloid Cover Derby.

Looked the part of a big-league power pitcher more than performed as such. I thought he did OK tho.

Carlos Gomez also wore 91 in his return

Another in a long line of mediocre, short-lived Mets relievers who will be forgotten soon.

Was worse last year than I remember, but the bullpen was so bad this year, there were times I wanted him back in the majors.

Excellent at Triple-A these past two years.

...and just like that, the Pirates released him.
