Dylan Case vs. the Mets back on June 16:

IPHRERBBSOHR
3 2/3777352

Those two homers came from Mets homerun leaders Francisco Llindor and Pete Alonso. Luís Torrens took reliever Jeremiah Estrada deep to center later in the game.

Of course, he no-hit the Nats five starts back, but (a) he's been just OK since then, and (b) it was the Nats. He walked three and needed 114 pitches to do it, but a no-hitter is a no-hitter.

Ever since the Mets got back into it, I thought this would be our "make or break" road trip. Unfortunately the Padres and DBacks aren't realistically in range right now. Even if we swept the Pads, we'd be a game and a half out. I guess it's still a big series in that we need all the wins we can get, and we're playing two teams that have been on fire.

The Braves, though, are within reach.

Right, and it was unrealistic they'd be reachable in 2024.

35 to play, day by day, make 'em count...

It's a big series because the Padres are in front of the Mets and presently hold one of the three non first-place playoff spots. Every win against the Padres is also, necessarily, a loss for the Padres. When the Mets beat, let's say, the Twins for example, a Twins loss is nowhere near as impactful.

I wouldn't go so far as to call this the biggest series of the year. If the Mets played better before Lindor straightened out and before the Mets got Martinez and Vientos, they'd be in playoff position and closer to first place, maybe even in first place, no matter who they beat back then.

With the Mets regular lineup rotation now including everybody, it's more notable to say who is sitting than who is starting.

Sitting today, among others: Martinez, Bader, Marte.

I went to copy my formatting and add the lineups to it but I was
actually in editing mode and by the time I posted the lineup it was
already up downstairs so just splainin' what happened upstairs.

I suck, just ask around...

Hard hit balls all over the inning, but only one run.

Love it when I know I won't make it more than 2-3 innings and they score early on.

I have an 11:00 curfew tonight. Banking on a 6-1 lead by then
but we have a long ways to go for that.

Pretty funny that, for a few years, the Padres have had the lineup filled with converted shortstops at every position, but they have a 30-year-old rookie with no prior MLB starts going at shortstop tonight.

Those sliders for strikes two and three against Cronenworth have been Sevvy's best pitches yet.

But crap, here comes Machado.
