I looked into this too -- the same upper deck behind the plate seats that I scored five of for $70 on TickPick, for a July matinee, are going for $500 apiece for tomorrow. Pass.

Two different things here, although neither one is particularly pleasant.Fman99 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 8:21 amI looked into this too -- the same upper deck behind the plate seats that I scored five of for $70 on TickPick, for a July matinee, are going for $500 apiece for tomorrow. Pass.
1. Indeed, the Mets have increased the public price of postseason tickets significantly. For Tuesday, the game is largely sold out but a few tickets remain. You can indeed buy - directly from the Mets - an SRO ticket for $247.50. ($279.50 for a Promenade Outfield seat). That is…high for a division series.
Sadly, the Mets (and in fairness, this is throughout MLB) have taken the approach that they’d rather sell as many tickets for as high a price as they can, and if they wind up a few thousand short of a sellout, they don’t care…since they make more money this way. (The one exception are the discounts provided to season/plan holders. The postseason tickets the Mets sell to plan holders are at a considerable discount. This is far and away the most valuable benefit they provide to their best customers).
2. Those $500 upper level seats are the product of the entirely unpleasant secondary ticket market. Despite the high prices…there are still quite a few people buying, and thus people incented to resell for profit. Not fun at all.

What does it mean in terms of the crowd? There was a lot of bad ju-ju around the 2022 wild card series, and with high prices and an unfavorable Sunday night start time…you have an embarrassingly not-sold-out stadium.
For Tuesday, even with the unfavorable start time, there’s lots of positive ju-ju with the team, and it’s the first division series home game in 9 years. High prices won’t appear to keep people away, and thus I do expect a good home field advantage for our Mets.

I have no idea what the fuss or sour grapes are all about with the ticket prices. If I owned a pizzeria, and customers were willing to pay me $50.00 for one slice of pizza, I'd be charging $50.00 for a slice of pizza in a heartbeat. Isn't that how everything works? Or is everybody supposed to be able to own a Rolls Royce?
What the hell are youse whining about? When people stop paying those prices, those prices will come down.
Newsflash! It also costs a heck of lot more money to sit two rows behind home plate at field level than it does to sit in left field, 475 feet away and 60 feet higher than home plate. Duh.

Even if you're right, it wouldn't matter. I have no idea what point you're trying to make here. But you're bringing up tangential and irrelevant issues. You think that if we had relegation and the freedom for teams to move and locate wherever and whenever they wanted to, ticket prices would be cheaper?

It sure otherwise reads like you have an idea of my point.
Yes, there certainly would be market effects lowering prices if MLB didn't have a tight control on the number of teams, and territorial exclusivity.
If your restaurant was one of only two permitted to sell pizza in New York City, you might well be able to charge $50 a slice.

Sounds like this is a start for a new thread about the factors impacting ticket prices.

Aren't all the tickets already sold? The prices that you're seeing for tickets are resale prices no?

Maybe Kamala will weigh in on this.

First of all, it's the playoffs. So the product is limited. Lower supply means higher demand means higher prices. Secondly, if teams could glut a market to the point that profits are reduced, teams wouldn't glut the market in the first place. Thirdly, this is a ridiculous delusional fantasy that you're entertaining. Call your congressman.Edgy MD wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 1:06 pm It sure otherwise reads like you have an idea of my point.

That's right. I already said that. If my customers were willing to pay fifty bucks a slice, I'd charge them fifty bucks in a heartbeat. And if the queen had balls, the bear would shit in the woods.

I'm not entertaining a delusional fantasy.
I don't know why you would write this when you're proposing $50 pizza slices.

man, i'm glad i blew up my knee, or i would almost wish i could talk myself into paying for a postseason ticket and then explaining to the kids why i didn't bring them. except, fuuuuuuuuuuck, that's too much. i don't need a busted up knee to talk some sense into me.

Hope your knee gets better!
Do the Mets set this prices, or is MLB in charge for postseason games?

well the point is that's a lot, a lot more than it was pretty recently, and we don't want to spend that much but want to go.batmagadanleadoff wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 12:46 pm I have no idea what the fuss or sour grapes are all about with the ticket prices. Whether it works that way or not is not really the point here. I do wish baseball could be a little less of a representation of late stage capitalism where we all struggle to justify going to fun things while the owner could give everyone in the stadium a $100 bill and still finish the day richer.
I also wish idiots mouthing over about attendance figures realize they want it this way.
I don't think the plan holders get that significant of a discount either.Gwreck wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 12:31 pm Sadly, the Mets (and in fairness, this is throughout MLB) have taken the approach that they’d rather sell as many tickets for as high a price as they can, and if they wind up a few thousand short of a sellout, they don’t care…since they make more money this way. I was only saying the ticket price is too expensive for me, not for everyone obviously.
But I do wonder if a crowd of $500-a-seat fans can bring the same energy as the $30-a-seat Tuesday Night fans

The postseason tickets the Mets offered/made available via my ticket plan are 50-65% cheaper than what they are offering to the general public.rchurch314 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 3:51 pmI don't think the plan holders get that significant of a discount either.
