Make a one man weep, make another man sing.
Let's hope the singers are the Mets.

It was the golden age of saxophones in pop music. Where did they all go? They're not extinct... they're roaming free out there somewhere. I say we track them down and make a documentary.
Also - if you haven't checked out the making of We Are The World documentary, I highly suggest it. I liked it more than I thought I would, and Huey Lewis was great in it.

The sax was a staple in early R&R.
After that I liked rock and roll groups with horns. (Earth, Wind and Fire, Chicago, Kool and the Gang, etc.) But the sax riff in George Michaels' Careless Whisper is memorable.

We discussed that flick somewhere in here. It was better than I expected too.

Off-days in the post-season can be fun. If you listen real closely, you can hear arms healing.

I honestly haven't even been watching the NLCS because I'm pretty sure we're going to be let down. The bullpen is just too bad.

That was my approach in the 2000 Subway Series

I already got everything I wanted.
A winning season was #1.
A playoff run was #2.
A spot in the playoffs was #3.
Moving into the real playoffs (so, past the Wild Card series) was #4.
My interest began to taper in the NLDS and now everything is just extra. Everything I wanted for this year I got. It was an underdog year and since we're in the NLCS now, we're not so much underdogs anymore, are we? Rather, we're one of the top four teams in the league right now.
I'm happy with what the Mets did, so I'm not going to get too emotionally invested in the NLCS, which is just icing on the cake, and let myself be let down if/when they don't win.

If you'd told me in late May that in October they'd be going into Game 6 of the NLCS, I'd have laughed at you. So this season has wildly exceeded expectations.
But as long as they're here, why not win the damn thing?

I've seen every inning of every Mets postseason game since the first game of the 1973 NLCS.

I'll add, of course, that if the Mets DO make the World Series, I'll be watching every single game, maybe twice.

Fans should never take deep playoff runs for granted.
I recoiled at hearing Met fans taking the ouster by the Cardinals in stride because, in their minds, that year was a mere stepping stone to a sustained run of winning seasons which was sure to follow. This surge was also going to coincide with the downward trajectory of the Yanx.
Yeah, how'd all that work out for ya?
Plus, if we do manage to take these next two, the particular AL opponent takes the WS from a 'like to win' situation to a Must Win!
Re: NCLS Game 6 Oct 20 2024 8 PM Mets at Dodgers "The Power of Love"
I haven't moved from that position.
As Brandon Nimmo said the other day, "one win at a time".

The day the Mets won in 1969 I was in the fifth grade.
They put a TV in the gymnasium and I believe all of us kids and teachers were there with this tiny screen
I rode my bike home as fast as I could and watched Cleon get the last out
I went onto our front porch to see if people were outside celebrating but no. Everyone was pretty much at work I guess

Freddie must really be hurting. And it's not like you can move him to DH for a day.

I like Kopech opening. That way you don't see him in the late innings.

You kind of can, except nobody really has the juice to go to Ohtani to ask if he can fake it at first for seven innings.
Is there some reason why, if he's such an astounding athlete, he can't be at least as good as Anthony Rizzo over there?
