As a longtime advocate for Newsday to outline their big white letters, I have to give a thumbs down to their blue-and-orange outline on BIG FLIES.
I salute them for trying a flanking maneuver, and this may look great when they wrap Jets-based headlines in green and white or green and black, and Giants in blue and red, but ... I'm calling this a noble failure. It's sort of overbranded and underbranded at the same time, and feels like I'm pulling some cheap canned beans off the bottom shelf in the supermarket.
I may feel a little different it didn't clash so harshly with the red Newsday banner up top and red Budweiser sign below.

It was pretty worth it, too.
If the netting wasn't there, this would have just been a side-story — an offhand, somewhat petulant and wasteful gesture by a frustrated athlete reduced to a moment of childishness. But the effort and mindfulness it takes to toss it over a 20-foot barrier, with the half-smiling aplomb that suggested he was fully in control when he made that choice, kind of made this a heckuva story built around a pretty marginal figure.
The only paper that went with a shot of him actually in the act opts not to come up with a clever summary headline, and instead uses his (disputed) quote, so that's disappointing. The quote would work better in a sub-head.
