Let's talk about Willy Adames

Might as well start now.
He has Milwaukee history with David Stearns. He's said recently that he'd be willing to move from shortstop to third base. He turned 29 this past September.
If the Mets were to sign him, they would obviously have to move Vientos to another position. Likely options are first base or DH.

I like him, and the idea of Mark moving across the infield

He would make the move that Derek Jeter refused to make for the good of the team?
You never have too much power. Why not?

If you're going to talk about 3B FAs then you should toss Alex Bregman on the fire too, although his OBP took a nose dive this past season as well: ~.370 for 2017 - 23; .315 in '24 which is odd because the rest of his numbers were pretty consistent. But the walk rate went from 94 pts for his career to 55 this season. 65 to 70 is about average so that's a big (and puzzling) drop from well above avg to somewhat below all of a sudden.

Had a .717 OPS in 2023. Career OPS 100 points lower. OPS+ has never been higher than Pete.
He would improve our defense. And might be a better bet to age slower than Alonso. But just doesn’t hit well enough to be corner IF.
Also. You don’t want two aging infielders locked up long term.

Bregman's career OPS is much closer to Alonso's. (.848 to Pete's .854).
Like FK said, his OBP took a dive this year. His SLG took a dive five years ago and shows no signs of recovering.
All three guys are around the same age. Who ages better is anyone's guess. But to me, both Bregman and Adames look like bad deals in the making.

Adames may have hit close to the number of homers Alonso did, but value-wise, I think he's more McNelvian.
He's a good player, who benefited somewhat from being in a strong lineup, but at this point in his career, he's probably not going to be a big difference maker. If he's a replacement for Alonso, it would probably be a wash, and it probably means they upgraded aggressively in the outfield.

I don't know who Mike Rodriguez is, or if he's a reliable source, but he's saying that the Mets have a seven-year offer on the table for Adames:
Mets have made an offer..
(I tried embedding it as a tweet, but it didn't seem to work:)

According to my sources, the #Mets have made an offer of over $160 million for a period of 7 years to Willy Adames. Their intention is for him to play third base; however, Adames is not convinced, as he prefers to continue in the shortstop position. He has not made a decision yet, and so far, he also has a proposal from the Dodgers. ✍🏽 #Mets #Dodgers #WillyAdames

I have read the tweet and my intention for this period is to not believe Mike Rodriguez

That's absurdly and, I suspect, unnecessarily, long IMO.
I also hope it's not Steve going over his POBO's head trying to make a splash a la Carlos Correa.
It would also pretty much say bye bye to Pete before this whole thing really gets started, wouldn't it.

Unless Vientos becomes the DH, I suppose.

As Yogi Berra is supposed to have said, "Third base is OK as long as nobody hits the ball to you".

You could make a case for 5 and 140 with either of them. Adames is younger, but Bregman is a safer bet defensively at third base. I wouldn't go overboard, but I'd certainly check in.

Only if Pete goes bye bye
