Don't Call Me Rube

Post by Edgy MD » Wed Dec 18, 2024 6:36 pm

... unless you mean it in a good way.

Thirty-year-old lefty Brandon Waddell joins the Mets on a minor-league deal. Eleven games as a big leaguer in 2021 and the mystical season of 2020. Mostly a reliever stateside but has spent the last three years starting in the KBO and CPBL.

While playing ACC ball back in the Obama era, he completed his UVA degree in three years. #respect

(opening up a can of worms)
Has anyone thought about retiring Rube Walker's number?

Anyhow,
They're picking up a lot of box of chocolates pitchers. We won't know what we have until we see tham.

And they signed a potential battery- mate, veteran catcher Chris Williams,
Williams, 28, has spent his entire minor league career in the Minnesota Twins organization following their drafting him in the eighth round of the 2018 draft out of Clemson University. In 2024, Williams hit .221/.339/.461 with 16 doubles, 17 home runs, 41 RBIs in 88 games, and went five-for-five stealing bases. Williams also spent all of the 2023 season in Triple-A, where he hit 21 home runs, knocked in 75 runs, and had a .847 OPS in 95 games. The right-handed hitter had a career-high 28 home runs between Double and Triple-A during the 2022 season.

Korea has a way of fixing pitchers, i.e. Merrill Kelly.

It never hurts to take a flyer on a guy like Waddell.

I'd always thought he had a lot more than 11 games of major league experience.
