Doesn't seem like my cuppa either.
I've made no attempt to see it despite it being all over cable and winning a boat-full of awards.

The first time they went kung-fu it was fun, the next 25 weren't as fun.

Yeah. I bailed out at about the 45 or 60 minute mark.

Started and couldn't get through it.
I like action.
I like sci-fi.
I like family stories.
But they couldn't make chicken salad from this chopped up chicken.

No, you're not. I loved it; my wife hated it.

From reviews and discussions of the movie since it first came out, I get the impression that that how well people liked it is inversely proportional to their age - the younger the reviewers, the higher the rating and vice versa.

Using 'Rotten Tomatoes' as a gauge, both the critics and the audience reviews were very high.
I got about a half hour in recently and was totally lost, both because i had trouble understanding the dialogue due to accents and very rapid fire delivery, and also lots of trouble following the plot.
Maybe I'll give it another shot, maybe not.

It's super weird and very challenging (in a good way, like pretty much all A24 films are). It puts a middle-age female immigrant as the bad-ass hero figure, which is a late change to the script and central to the whole thing. Jackie Chan was originally supposed to be the protagonist and it would've been a completely different (less successful IMO) movie if they'd stuck with him instead of Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn. There's also a queer daughter storyline and some hilarious Georgia O'Keefe-like vagina imagery that helps drive a "strong women bossing shit" message underneath. When it ended, I was like "what the fuck was that???" but wanted to watch it again right away.
