I watched this Saturday night on Apple TV , streams on Tubi too. I haven't seen it in many years, probably since it first came out on DVD. Anyway, it is all about Denzel Washington performance, if you had asked me before I would have said Jake Gyllenhaal and not Ethan Hawke co-starred .
Probably not as good as I remembered, or as good as I thought it was

I believe this movie came out right around 9/11. I was walking downtown amid the smelly dust and saw a poster for it, thinking it was completely wrong for the moment. A poster for Bob Dylan's newly available Love and Theft was on the same wall.

It was okay, just okay. Love and Theft, however, is pretty great.

The pop culture moment I associate with 9/11 was the Ryan Adams release NEW YORK, NEW YORK
The album, GOLD, wasn't released until several weeks later but the single was came ahead of it including the video
which was shot on location on 9/7 with the towers featured in the background for much of the song.
Saw TRAINING DAY but a whole bunch of years ago so don't remember a whole lot but, like Sharpie, I remember
thinking at the time that it was merely meh.

I mean, I used to think it was the best thing ever, but now, not so much.

Same ,I was disappointed on the rewatch , and wondered if over the years it got better in my own mind, like you see all these memes and crap about it

Never have I ever seen this. I find that I have, for decades now, been Ethan Hawke-averse.
