With a good chunk of the team slumping, options on the bench to pinch-hit for Leody Taveras weren't great, but they were pretty much all better than Taveras, who is in the mother of all slumps.

Even the nominal advantage of being a switch-hitter able to bat lefty against the righthanded Díaz wasn't much of an advantage at all, because it made him less likely to get hit.
