IGT July 30, Mets vs Twins, bouncing back again.

The 58-47 Twins take on our Mets, still smarting from the 15-run butt-kicking from Monday.

David Festa is on the hill for the Twins, with a 1-1 record and a rather lofty 8.16 ERA. He's making just his third start. Don't confuse him with Matt Festa. David is from Jersey.

Sean Manaea starts for the home team. He's 6-4 with a 3.74 ERA.

Minneapolis musicians of the day are the producing duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They did a lot of things with Janet Jackson. But my fave is "Human" by the Human League. Jame and Lewis wrote and produced the song after they were brought on board when the band was slumping. It went to No. 1. I like the Human League and this is my favorite from their catalog. The Stereogum guy doesn't like it much. But I don't always agree with his opinions.

That song was #1? I must've been in a coma that month. And after listening/watching about 35 seconds of the song on the linked youtube video, I'm so glad I was in a coma. Probably a Mookie/Buckner ball induced coma and hangover. That song is like Rick Astley, but on quaaludes. And with a lot more synth. Awful. Just awful.

It's a great song.

This is a tough situation because we need to beat the Twins, ideally in a sweep to hold off the Padres. 57-51, and the D-Backs, 56-51. But we also want the Twins to hold off the surging Red Sox because the last thing we all need is the Sox and Yankees in the postseason and ESPN spiraling out of control in a hype tornado. The Twins can lose tonight and tomorrow then go on a seven-game winning streak and I'd be OK with that.

The Yankees haven't clinched anything from where I'm sitting.

Human did help put Human League on the map. It’s a good track but some lesser known songs I prefer such as Fascination and Electric Dreams.
PS..I am a DJ with an 80’s rock show 😉

LGM!

While we await lineups and colossal Mets trade news... this is
about how far I can tolerate the band. But this is worth drowning
a worm on from time to time...

...the play this and Fascination all the time in ShopRite.

An 80s rock show? I'm in! That sounds great!

"Fascination," "Mirror Man," "The Lebanon," - all great tunes!

I love this gem, which came out a little later: "Heart Like a Wheel."

No Trevor Rogers for the Mets. He's an Oriole. So far the pundits are flailing miserably.

That’s a classic. ShopRite has great music!

That settles it. The Human League gets a Desert Island poll this week (unless they've already had one).

Thanks! Excellent choices played them on my show.
Heart Like a Wheel is a top tune. Haven’t heard it in ages!

As for tonight’s game, Manaea makes me nervous 😬

Edgward I’m all for a HL poll!

Nimmo was traded to the Reds for Jay Bruce? I don't recall that at all? What caused the deal to change?

A medical concern so the Reds took Dilson Herrera instead.

I remember Nimmo's name being mentioned in Jay Bruce rumors but I don't recall it being considered done.
Dilson Herrera, plus a throw-in never to make the majors, was the ultimate price for Bruce.

Dilson ended his ML career by getting 6 plate appearances with Baltimore in 2020 and wound up a sub-.200 hitter.
He's played in foreign and independent leagues ever since including this year in Mexico and is Still only 30 y/o!

The Mets almost got Jay Bruce and/or Joey Votto six times each.

Not to jinx nothing, but Manaea's best game of the season is happening here.

Seven scoreless with right about six inning's worth of pitches.
Send him out for the 8th!

My guess is that he gets one batter in the eighth.
