Scapegoating starts early, as Nats fired pitching coach Derek Lilliquist yesterday.

So the rainout on Sunday moves Syndergaard's start to Tuesday.
Prior to that this series was looking to be one without: Scherzer, Strasberg, deGrom, Syndergaard, and Matz
It's still missing all those other guys so we will miss both those two 'S' guys -- although the Nats are somehow 2-7 in Scherzer starts this year (1-1 vs NYM)

So as things stand now:
Tuesday 7:05 -- Syndergaard vs Jeremy Hellickson [6 starts; 2-1; 5.52; 1.62]
Wednesday 7:05 -- Font vs Patrick Corbin [8 starts; 3-1; 3.20; 1.11]
Thursday 1:05 -- Wheeler vs Anibal Sanchez [8 starts; 0-6; 5.27; 1.68]

The now 16-24!! Nats are 4-8 in May despite coming off a four game split at the Dodgers, a series which finished off on Sunday with Ryu no-hitting them for 7-1/3
Anthony Rendon is recently off the IL, as is Juan Soto as of today. Both 1st sackers Zimermann and Matt Adams are currently sitting on the IL, as SS Trea Turner has been for most of the season.
Howie Kendrick has been playing 1B over the last week or so joined by Geraldo Parra whom the Nats picked up on Thursday two days after he was released by SFG
Kendrick and Adam Easton have been their two best hitters once you get past Rendon

They're just below average (and also just below the Mets) in RS/G but are towards the bottom (and again right behind the Mets) in RA/G
Their relievers have a collective 6.13 ERA and 1.62 WHIP ... and I bet you thought the NYM pen 4.78 / 1.47 is tough to stomach.

Over the last month or so, (since April 10th) Bryce Harper is 21 for 107 (.196)

Does Font really need to pitch this series with the day off and the rainout? Cant we go Syndergaard, Wheeler, DeGrom all on normal rest?

Kick the Nats while they are down!

I agree. They said something about extra rest going into a stretch of 20 games in 20 days but F the Nationals and I'd rather see Font against MIA.

get some "extra rest" against the Twins or something. This is the time to stomp your foot down on the division!

If they stay in rotation Font misses the Nats when they visit Citi next week so it prolly all comes out in the wash.

But, I agree, this is the time to separate the Nats from the good teams in the East

So, now the Mets have swept a four-game series from the Nats, in which they trailed in each of the last three innings going into the bottom of the eighth, do you think the Nats are going to make a play for either of the the Mets two DFA's relievers?
