Twenty-One Prediction Fun: Brett Baty

Post by Edgy MD » Tue Mar 09, 2021 10:03 am

I'm Brett Baty, one of the many BBs in Mets history. I'm a consensus member of their top-five prospect family, but (a) usually at the back-end of the five, and (b) kind of benefiting from being one of the only high-end draft picks that prior GM Brodie Van Wangenen didn't trade off.

There's some ambiguity about me. Nobody doubts that I can hit and slug, but there is some disagreement about how well I can stick at third. If you need a lefty-hitting first base/left field DH type, no problem. But there are a lot more of them on the market than lefty-hitting thirdbasemen, so if I can stay in the latter role, I'll smell like an All Star. Sort of a clean, leathery smell.

Like many young prospects, missing 2020 was a sucky break for me, but I got some good time in back in 2019, and my projected power and advanced batting eye was already showing, so I could be what Branch Rickey used to call a quckie. But am I a David Wright quickie or a Victor Diaz quickie? You tell me.

I keep wanting to pronounce his name "Batty" but I believe it's "Beatty" as in Warren and Ned, right?

I suppose we'll have to see what Gary Cohen comes up with.

He'll be repeating low A until he can improve his 1 K per 3 AB ratio.
If he can, he will make it to high A with maybe a cuppa' at AA.

Later

Apparently one did. He can't get away from the tell.
I have never insulted anyone. I simply describe them, accurately.

I'm going to guess he starts at high A and gets to AA for more than a cup of coffee. Not sure the year off will help his K rate, but the raw skills are there.

Wins the MVP in whatever league Brooklyn is in, get a few late-season AA ABs.

Brook-a-leen. Which is probably for the best, because if he goes up north and starts sleeping with all of Jake Barnes' buddies, it's probably gonna end up in a mess of fistfights, bullshit, and regret.

What a great interview! She's a natural. I knew before he answered he was into fishin with his buddies, dogs over cats, and would say getting drafted by the Mets was his favorite thing in baseball.

With that background there's no way he can miss. He'll represent the Cyclones in the Class A ASG on his way to Bingo this year. Have a good year. Brodie won;t regret drafting him but regret not becoming his agent.

Another maybe-in-2023. Seems the scope of T-OPF could be a little narrower? But I'm
playing along, in alphabetical order, of course.

Yeah, neurotic completionists ruin the game.

I promise there won't be any TOPF threads dedicated to Assistant Trainer Joseph Golia.
