Twenty-One Prediction Fun: J.D. Davis

Hey, do you have a lefty that needs to be battered? Because I do that sort of thing. I can treat righties pretty harshly too.

But after looking like Brodie V.W.'s best idea in 2019, I did some falling off in 2020. Frankly, all of our righthanded bats fell off. I still don't know what that was about, but it happened, and part of the runoff of that is that old J.D. has lost a little bit of his luster. Folks be talking like I'm expendable.

Maybe I am. But I play four positions, and though I'm not particularly known to play any of them particularly well (particularly), the tools are there. I'm also told I pitch, but I haven't seen myself do that yet. (So let me know if you see that happen.)

So yeah, I've heard the rumors. As soon as Carrasco gets an owie or Loup gets the croup, I'm the "expendable guy" that gets tossed into the trade mill. But let me ask you something? With our starting outfield all lefthanders, our seccondbaseman a lefthander, and our utility infielder a lefthander, don't you think I'm a good guy to keep around? I think you do, but you don't want to admit it. And I say that I'm still the starting thirdbaseman on opening day, and I still intend to be the starting thirdbaseman when the playoffs open.

But words are cheap. At least my words are. My job is to speak with my bat, my glove, my arm, and my spikes. But you get to use words. Please use them and tell me how great my 2021 will be.

Cliff Floyd, take it away.

The second best JD currently in the majors (behind JD Martinez).
Starts 120 games, mostly at third base, appears in 150.
Regains some of his 2019 magic: .267 - 20 - 78
Defensively? Drives in more than he lets in, which is what keeps him in the lineup.

Struggles with the glove and-- worse-- bat early, and loses his starting gig this summer, the Summer of Guillorme. Flores-like resurgence in fan estimation late, as he delivers a couple of big PH extra-base hits against the Marlins and Braves during the season's last week, helping secure the NL East for Ol' Metsie.

The stats, though, look kinda meh: 280 PA, .258/.347/.450, 10 HR, 33 RBI, 32 R, 0.2 WAR

This looks about right to me. The bat will be just good enough to make his glove tolerable, but he'll be watching his back all year.

Monster April, breaks or sprains something in early May and is eternally Guillorme'd.

I also think he eventually loses his job to Guillorme. Gets traded before the deadline for a pitcher.

I think he goes right back into 2019 mode and spends the year mashing other peoples potatoes. .278 25 HRs and just barely passable defense at 3B. Comes out of every game late for defense.
