Catch-22: Mark Canha
Catch-22: Mark Canha
NAME: Mark Canha
AGE: 33
POSITION: Left Field (rf, cf, 1b)
NUMBER: 19
NICKNAME: "Tom Ace"
fWAR IN 2021: 2.6
ZIPS PROJECTION FOR 2022: 2.0
I'm Mark Canha and I'm your new Mets leftfielder. That could be fulltime, or possibly halftime or less, with Dom Smith getting the bulk of the opportunities. Or I could wind up in right or center or first or DH or something.
That's the thing. Versatility must've been a key buzzword in the Mets offseason planning, because they gobbled up Marte and Escobar and me all in a row, without really projecting a clear picture of where we'll be playing.
I can't get too crazy about that. I mean, I get it. Successful organizations are nimble, and guys with positions set in stone don't help with nimbleness. Or nimbility. Whatev'.
Me? I help. I'm pretty sure my family name was Conner and we just changed the spelling after living in Boston for 10 years and realizing nobody was ever going to pronounce it right. We're nimble that way.
How about you? Nimble enough to tell me how 2022 is going to pan out for me?

Oddly enough, for a righty batter, seems to have a career edge batting against righty pitching, not exactly what you want in a platoon player.

He's like Xavier Nady and in fact, will do exactly what Nady did including getting traded for Oliver Perez midseason.

Hit .231 last year so I'm not impressed. .240, 10/50. No real 4th outfielder so he'll play every day.
The answer to the question "Can people really be that stupid?" is always "Yes."

I hope he surprises me, but I'm not expecting much from him. I think he'll lose his left field job to Brett Baty by July.

Re: Catch-22: Mark Canha
I get Michael Cuddyer vibes from Canha so I'm gonna guess that his line is identical to Cuddyer's in 2015: .259/.309/.391, 10 homers, plenty of regret.
great googly moogly!

Hurt in late April, never really gets back and is a $12 mil dud for 2022.
