Shovel off to Buffalo

Post by whippoorwill » Thu Nov 17, 2022 5:23 pm

I have a friend who grew up in Buffalo and she’s probably laughing her butt off at the drama around this big storm.
I will ask her.
However her parents moved to Port Charlotte a few years back and her mom got displaced by that hurricane.

Weather…honestly!

Upon hearing the news of 4 feet of snow coming to Buffalo, Ted Cruz left for Cancun.

My mom's family was from Buffalo. I once told her we were expecting eight inches of snow, and her comment was , "Oh, you mean flurries".

accurate.

though the worst storm I saw in Buffalo was a windy ice storm. rain froze to all the trees and then there were like 40mph gusts of wind. I saw women open the door to leave lecture halls and just spin out and crash to the floor (because of cousre the rain froze to the ground too)

Ya know, ya live up north, this could happen.

Sunday's NFL game has already been moved from Buffalo to Detroit (the closest domed stadium).

I'm guessing vax issues keep them from moving it to Hamilton or Toronto.

Waitaminute ... is The Carrier Dome not available?

I know when the Bears were playing at University of Illinois during renovations, there were issues with being able to sell alcohol at the stadium and some special rules were created. I wonder if Ford Field might be a little more lucrative for the teams.

The Detroit stadium has more seats for football (65,000) than either of those stadia. Rogers Centre (53,500) has a dome, I'm not sure if Hamilton's Tim Horton Field (24,000) does. And while Syracuse (49,500) is supposed to get less snow than Buffalo, the NY Thruway is closed between Rochester and Buffalo (no busses) and I'm not sure if the airports are clear.
And, as you said, there's that vaccine restriction.
Plus, one of the teams has to stay in Detroit to play the Thanksgiving Day game, so this seemed like a logical choice considering logistics.
So, Motor City it is.

Also, I'm sure the NFL doesn't consider Syracuse or Hamilton to be towns or venues worthy of their presence.
Of course this is coming from a league that plays in Jacksonville, a city with a waffle house on every corner.

The airport in Buffalo re-opened this morning and the Bills are reportedly going to leave for Detroit at 4PM today. Leaving less than 24 hours ahead of time is cutting it way closer than normal even though it's a relatively short flight.

The kicker to this whole thing is that, even though the Bills are due to play a scheduled game vs Detroit in Detroit on Thursday afternoon, they plan to return to Buffalo after tomorrow's game and then turn around and do it all over again, presumably on Wednesday.

I understand it's home and all but this seems like a really good time to stay outta Dodge for a few days.
