You're probably thinking of Bartles and Jaymes Wine Coolers. Zimas weren't a thing until 1993.Frayed Knot wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 7:39 am That night, after the set was over the the day had cooled down a bit, Kenny and the band threw on their
Members Only jackets and popped a couple of Zimas to celebrate their fine set.
Because, if you're gong to party like it's 1985, you might as well go all the way.

I took a shot.
B&J Wine Coolers, the official drink of white suburban HS girls, were already a punchline by the mid-70s.
Zimas felt mid-80s-ish to me and might have succeeded, or at least not flopped as completely and as quickly, if had they arrived a half-dozen or so years earlier.
I still don't really know what they were.

Your internal chronometer is off, at least as far as starter-booze goes. B&J's were introduced in 1985.

Must be remembering a different wine cooler from the Carter era. Boone's Farm maybe, or something like that?
I remember that they came in strawberry, among other teen-tempting flavors.

Re: Kenny Loggins FACTS
The wine cooler industry was ravaged by federal tax law that made it impossible for its makers to have product priced comparably to beer. The liquor brands ran with it and introduced super-premium pricing.
Now some states have changed rules about taxing to base it on alcohol content and not base liquor so you're now seeing canned vodkas sodas alongside beer in the store. Also more expensive

I often conflate B&J and Seagrams. Below is my best memory of wine coolers.

Looking back on it, B&J was likely an attempt by a major Corp (E&J Gallo) to mainstream and 'adult-ize' the wine cooler market, or at least to make it look like they weren't strictly aiming for the teen market even if their product still had that Hawaiian Punch pallette of flavors and colors.

When Kenny was born, his parents said his older brother could name him. His choice was "Clark Kent" but they settled on Kenneth Clark Loggins. #fact
Re: Kenny Loggins FACTS
"Edgy, we let you name your brother as an act of love. You didn't sell his naming rights, did you?"
"No, why? Did Monsanto say something?"
Here's a fun Kenny Loggins fact — he and Darryl Hall are slowly turning into one another.

I can't believe this thread keeps going. Kenny Loggins. Really.
What's next, we'll dig up a Billy Squire thread?

Oh man, is that a blast from the past! I loved those commercials and that particular jingle. I had a phase where I used to sing it all the time (like 1985 or '86) and accompany myself on harmonica, (which I haven't played in decades and don't know if I still can). Here's another one:
But the bluesy one youse just posted was my fave.
