Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
Nobody-- the players included-- cared about NBA games in November, so they made them "mean more." Also a product to sell the next time they sell media rights. Tourneys like this work in soccer allatime.
I was thinking, the rainout problem is the only thing holding back a similar stunt in MLB. Make all Tuesday night games in April & May "tournament qualifiers" then reset the schedule between for a quick 4-team playoff at a good weather site

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
Why doesn't MLB just declare every single fucking game a playoff game? Then they could double ticket prices and have the networks pay even more. Then, after the 162 game playoffs, they can have a round robin elimination tournament in which all 30 teams vie for the WS trophy. Of course, if it's a playoff game, then the better team has to win each game or else the ninny pundits'll pull their hairs out, shrieking "How could this happen?!!???" Then they could have the WS champs play the Super Bowl winners for the Super Duper World Series trophy. Call that the playoffs also. And charge more money.

Went to Lowe’s the other day looking for a pack of replacement bulbs for our bathroomFrayed Knot wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 9:25 pm I sure hope these newer light bulbs last a helluva lot longer than the ones the government won't allow to be manufactured anymore cuz I just spent $26 for a pair of them.
The young man in the light bulb aisle looked at my
Package I took along and said he’d never her of Sylvania bulbs.

Has a similar situation. I went into a sporting goods store and asked if they had sweat socks. You know, the kind we wore with sneakers that went up about four inches over the ankle. Nobody knew what I was talking about. Today's socks are either anklets or up the calf. I left the store. Somebody later told me I should have asked for gym socks. Is that right?whippoorwill wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 3:21 pm Went to Lowe’s the other day looking for a pack of replacement bulbs for our bathroom

There should now be a new phrase for those who want to hold onto hope for something even though extremely unlikely:
Hey it could happen ... after all, Keith Richards made it to 80.
