Fgirl will start her senior year of high school after Labor Day. She's narrowed down her preferred SUNY destinations to Geneseo (my alma mater) or Oswego. We took the Geneseo tour this past Tuesday and she really liked the campus. She has to decide if she likes it enough to be an hour further from home than she'd be if she went to Oswego instead.
If she chooses Oswego, my parents live a half mile from campus. It's a nice little town.

But TBH, I've heard campus life is a lot better at Geneseo.

Short Center starts at UMass Amherst next week. It took him a while to make the decision, but I think he's looking forward to it. One of the choices on the table was to attend Syracuse with Baby Seawolf, but ultimately I think this was the best fit for him.

My wife has been dreading the day for a while. I think it will be a big adjustment for my daughter and me as well. When he's out the apartment seems so much more quiet. My in-laws are going through it a bit too. We live in the same building and they're used to seeing him frequently. We went out to dinner for his birthday and my father-in-law sat with him and talked about all the great schools he could transfer to in the city if he hates it there. Funny stuff.

Lunchpail also considered Syracuse but we needed a basketball scholarship to afford it. They offered some $$ but only after we'd already made a decision.

Have fun at UMass

My granddaughter graduated from there last June and loved it.
Best of everything to Short Center.

Now I know that's been his nickname here for a long time.
But, be honest, is he still shorter than you?

I believe that. The Oswego campus is kind of disjointed in a way that other SUNY campuses I've visited are not. I think ultimately she's going to select Geneseo, though she's playing her cards close to the vest.

Ha. No, he passed me a while ago! Wait. Does that mean I'm Short Center now?

conventional wisdom is you have to move off center as you get older.

I've been off-center for most of my life.

Back home after move-in day. My wife did a good job of holding it together until we left so that SC wouldn't be embarrassed by his parents making a scene. A few tears in the car ride home, but I'm proud of her for being strong.

On the other hand, I'm still working to get used to it. He was super busy his senior year, but we would go watch his games, work out together, watch the Mets or talk about them. It's gonna be an adjustment not having him around.

It's funny. Some of the other dads told me to expect something like this. I'm guessing we must be the first generation of dads to feel this way. I'm pretty sure my dad just looked up one day and was like, hey, where's CF, and my mom had to be like he left for college a month ago.

I experienced the same thing, nine years ago. So I guess that makes me about a half-generation older than you.

After historic floods that wiped out homes and roads, schools in the town of Oxford, CT have opened.
