I only recently (last five years or so) became aware of the term 'Yacht Rock' and had no recollection of it being used to describe that kind of music at the time such stuff was popular. Turns out that
(as I suspected) the term Didn't exist at the time and wasn't invented until the 1970s-80s heyday of 'YR' were some three decades in the rear view. It came about via a comedy podcast (weren't
none of those during the Carter administration) which invented the term and hung it on that genre as a kind of winking tribute.

This all courtesy of a recent HBO documentary about Yacht Rock featuring Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross*, plus all them Toto guys along with more recent musicians who very
much admire many of the records put out by the crews of all those yachts (come on down QuestLove).

Not bad.

* Christopher Charles Geppert as it turns out. Good to find out that his name wasn't just as a result of his parents owning a cruel sense of humor

I'm surprised that there are enough Trans in Siberia to have their own orchestra.

The highest starting salary for graduates of a Connecticut college are graduates of the Coast Guard Academy, nosing out graduates of Yale - $93,400 to $92,100.

Jefferson Airplane had a different female singer for its debut album; and when Grace Slick joined she brought both " White Rabbit" and "Someone to Love" with her (written by her brother in law). I didn't know that.

I did. They were the only band to perform at Monterey, Woodstock and Altamont. And that first album with Grace Slick, Surrealistic Pillow, is one hell of an album, ain't it? The Hot Tuna spinoff band is worth listening to, too.

Ever watch The Wonder Years? Embryonic Journey is like the unofficial official background music to that TV show.

I learned this when one of our Guess Who Died? threads noted the passing of said female singer (Signe Anderson).

Sometimes, Guess Who Died? threads become Guess Who Lived? threads.

And here's the Mets/Grace Slick Jefferson Airplane connection. In Ken Burns' Baseball Documentary, Volunteers is the background music playing while the Mets celebrate their Miracle of '69.

Bald eagle's national bird status has finally been made official
The bald eagle has been a symbol of American perseverance and cunning for hundreds of years. It was adapted as the Coat of Arms for the United States Great Seal in 1782. And yet, it’s only just become the country’s official national bird.
In signing Senate Bill 4610, Biden clears the way for Chapter 3 of the United States Code to be amended to say: “The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is the national bird.”

I always thought it was.
