The Wall Street Journal notes the 50th anniversary of the release of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. This has always been my favorite of the Zep albums. I like how it's all over the place, which makes sense because it is partly odds and ends. Not a lot of bands can pull off "Down by the Seaside" on the same album as "Kashmir." I love "Bron-Yr-Aur," "The Rover," and "Ten Years Gone." Don't really care for "In My Time of Dying."

In my Time of Dying. It's even better live. Jimmy on the Danelectro!
Have no idea what you mean by not being able to pull off Down by the Seaside and Kashmir on the same album. Does anybody know? Kashmir represents the band at its very peak. Seaside is crapola filler.

The last great Zeppelin album.
Stuff I didn't know until recently: "Houses of the Holy" was recorded as the title track for that album but was left off because the band thought it was too similar to "Dancing Days." I'd have reversed that. "Dancing" is one of my least favorite Zep songs.

That's an understatement. What followed PG isn't even worth listening to. Why would anybody even want to after what they put out on their first six studio albums up to and including PG? And the last one, that's not even a Zeppelin album. I have no idea what the fuck that last one is. But that's what you get when half the band is strung out on hard drugs and booze to the point that they didn't even know what day it was.

I'm partial to Custard Pie and the song Houses of the Holy. I play both of them at gigs as solo acoustic numbers. They are just good rock songs.Marshmallowmilkshake wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:08 pm The Wall Street Journal notes the 50th anniversary of the release of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. I think “Presence” is a mess and I haven’t listened to it in ages.
But “In Through the Out Door” has its moments. “In the Evening” is good loud fun. “Fool in the Rain” is solid. “All of my Love” is a good listen. Drops off pretty far after that. Would have been better if “Ozone Baby,” the outtake on “Coda,” was on there.
Overall, I think more care went into the packaging on that album than the music.

I like “Nobody’s Fault but Mine,” but not much more on Presence.
