David Byrne, who did much of his growing up in the Baltimore-adjacent community of Arbutus, long believed himself to have been saved from Vietnam by the famed work of the Catonsville Nine, who became celebrated criminals in 1968 when they broke into the Catonsville draft board offices, removed the records in the files and burned them in the parking lot.

That his name was in the files turned out to be probably unlikely, as Byrne was 16 at the time, but it's meaningful that he believed it, and grew up feeling he owed his life to the Berrigan brothers, leaders in the raid.
