Between 'Seasons in the Sun' and 'Which Way You Going Billy', theirs may have been the sappiest house on the planet in that era.

I tend to think that "Seasons in the Sun" precipitated the end of their marriage, but that might not be kind.

Neal Adams (1941-2022)

For my money, the greatest comic book artist of his era.

It's hard to argue against that.

It's cool how those three covers have his distinctive style, but a tone distinctive to the characters.

The Green Lantern/Green Arrow team-ups in the seventies was the goods, wasn't it?

I guess I'm just a sucker for drifter stories. My favorite book from the 70s is Ghost Rider. I wasn't introduced to it until 1987 or so, and I started scouring around for back issues.

I recall that you have a fondness for the Incredible Hulk TV series that I don't share at all.

It's the highway-bound essence of the whole American existential farce in a 44-minute nutshell, or in 32 pages, if you prefer.

(The pilot telefilm kinda blew chunks though.)

One of my close friends growing up, Brendan, died Sunday after a fast onset of pancreatic cancer.

Brendan was a very funny guy from a big family of crazy Irish brothers, but his humor was very peculiar and elaborate, extremely funny to those who got it and mysterious if you didn't. A huge Mets fan. I've talked about how my friends back in the 80s referred to the Mets as the "Brothers"-- that was Brendan and his crew.

I'd known Brendan lived in the city for many years but I hadn't seen him since I hitchhiked to Albany to visit him during college. We'd only just reconnected on facebook and turned out we lived in the same neighborhood but never got together as he was chemo-sick. Brendan also worked in WTC on 9/11 and lost a lot of co-workers. He was one of the people who read off names of the dead in the event every year.

Sorry about Brendan.

You’ve shared the hitchhike-to-Albany story here before and I just realized that I have a hitchhiking-to-Binghamton passing reference in my screenplay, and if I ever sell it, I owe you a cut.

Nice. Brendan was the kinda guy who made getting together fun enough that you'd totally do something stupid and hitchhike 300 miles to get there

Very sorry to hear it.

If you're interested, I have a cousin who has gotten very involved in pancreatic cancer charities since his father died of it a few years ago (also a huge Mets fan; I've tried to get him into the Pool in the past). I could connect you on FB.

Thanx. In true Brendan fashion he has requested all attendees at his wake wear Hawaiian shirts and Mets hats (funeral attendees must wear tuxedos)

Few Love Boat guests brought as strong a hair game as David Birney.
