Last I heard from Hurt was when he was slated to play the title role in a bio-pic on Gregg Allman a few years back.
But then a worker on the set was killed by a train -- in an accident which seemed to be as poorly explained as the prop gun shooting incident in the recent Alec Baldwin flick has been so far. Production was halted and Hurt dropped out, apparently killing the film for good.

Hurt was my favorite celebrity interview. He'd be on a junket promoting The Legend of Sasquatch or Lost in Space or something, and insist that the interviewer take his craft seriously and address him like he'd just painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling. He'd get the de rigueur question of "What's it like working with Edward Norton (or whoever)?" and he'd invariably answer with the likes of, "Well ... it is work. And it's hard bloody work at that."

The reviewer would suddenly realize this goof was going to give his boring stupid assignment a great angle, and come back with. "That's terrific ... so what's it like working with Ed Norton?" and Hurt would prattle on crankily about the grave responsibility of the artist and the profound questions they ask and the legacies they leave behind and the writer would be all excited to call his editor to ask for 1,000 more words.

He was so good in Broadcast News as the bubbleheaded blonde newscaster who at least KNEW he was bubbleheaded. Still one of my favorite movies of all time.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, 84.
Madeleine K. Albright, a child of Czech refugees who fled from Nazi invaders and Communist oppressors and then landed in the United States, where she flourished as a diplomat and the first woman to serve as secretary of state, died on Wednesday in Washington. She was 84.

The cause was cancer, her daughter Anne said.

Enveloped by a veil of family secrets hidden from her for most of her life, Ms. Albright rose to power and fame as a brilliant analyst of world affairs and a White House counselor on national security. Under President Bill Clinton, she became the country’s representative to the United Nations (1993-97) and secretary of state (1997-2001), making her the highest-ranking woman in the history of American government at the time.

I kinda saw that guy as the John Belushi of touring rock bands. Always 100% physical, though never looking healthy. Drug use and partying for years and years even after people kinda knew it's been a problem. One hell of a musical talent, though. He could play the skins well enough to back up a superstar drummer, had a killer singing voice and could work a crowd as well.

I'm not terribly surprised but still terribly sad. It's another band I had several opportunities to see but never did. RIP

By all accounts he was a lovable guy in spite of his demons. And by all accounts, he had demons. It's a shame, but it's not a new story.

CW McCall is responsible for one of the only times my dad and me had bought a record by the same artist. I had the convoy 45 and he had a previous album with the great comedy song "Classified"

Convoy was a great 'song' -- fer sure, fer sure. Real ol' school rap. The
funny thing is he's probably lip-syncing on that Douglas video. RIP.
