I would oppose his execution.

I wouldn't shed any tears for him, but (and I know this isn't why you're objecting) it would be very Third-Worldish for a country to execute a former leader.

It's certainly one of the reasons. Although I avoid the term "Third World," it would be consistent with the choices of less-than-stable states.

I'm not up on modern espionage, but why would somebody take boxes of documents? Don't you just take photos of intelligence docs, store them on a microchip and swallow it on your way out of the building? Or hide it in your heel or your lucky rabbit's foot keychain?

Or just store all that shit on the cloud and delete it from your device before anyone is the wiser?

I say he is keeping it to sell, possibly for money or asylum should everything go South.
We've read from many people who have worked with/for him that he loves paper (and souvenirs).
And he'd probably not trust anyone to convert it to electronic media and not keep the originals for themselves. (my guess)
He's an old school crook.

I'm sure he's been selling US top secrets all throughout his presidency. This isn't the beginning, but a continuation of his crooked conduct.

Because the people he'd be dealing with would want to know it's real.

Take the Saudis. They want nuclear technology. And Jared just coincidentally got a $2 billion investment from the Saudi Sovereign Wealth Fund just after Trump left office. And they're staging their LIV golf tournaments at two of his clubs.

With Trump, you always follow the money.

I'm not asking why he wants the intel. Only why he wants it in registered documentss, which are much more easily traceable than photographs of the docs.

And yeah, I guess your answer — to establish authenticity to the buyer — makes more than a little sense. But if that's the play, he's in a shitload of shitloads.

This article in the Daily Beast clearly explains the regulations that are involved in the case, and the possible penalties.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/a-trump-i ... y?ref=wrap
Does it matter that former President Trump states that he de-classified the materials found at Mar-A-Lago?
No.
Section 793(d) is not restricted to classified materials. Rather, it covers any document “relating to the national defense” that contains information that the possessor has reason to believe would be detrimental to the United States if made public. Here, the search warrant return states that documents seized from Mar-A-Lago include “classified/TS/SCI documents” (meaning Top Secret or Secure Compartmentalized Information), “Top Secret Documents,” “Secret Documents,” and “Confidential Documents.”

Even if former President Trump de-classified these documents before his term ended, the information contained in those documents would still fall squarely within Section 793(d).

Donnie's now saying that the FBI took his 3 passports when it raided his Mar-a-Lago property.
One is expired, one may still be active and one is given to former presidents.

I hope that's all of them so he can't flee the country to avoid prosecution.

Maybe it was in the search warrant. If not, he's probably making shit up. The
guy is a non-stop carousel of lies lies and more lies. Mentally ill X 1,000. And
half the country wants to give him back the nuke codes.

I wonder why someone who loves America so much would need a passport.

Saudi Arabia jumps off that list. They've pumped a lot of cash into his business world.
I don't think he's be too welcomed in Ukraine.

Unfortunately the lemmings only hear the lie. The FACT that is was
indeed a lie never reaches them. "Sad."

I think suing for slander repeatedly and remorselessly is the answer.

President Trump says the FBI took his passports? Lawsuit.

President Trump says President Obama took lots of classified documents that contain information about our nuclear arms? Lawsuit.

President Trump says President Obama was born in Kenya? Lawsuit.

President Trump says Congresswoman Omar has expressed support for al Qaeda? Lawsuit.

Lawsuit, lawsuit, lawsuit.

It's a nice thought, but lawsuits just line more attorney pockets and will
drag on for a decade. He'll be a cheese dribble face by then.

He needs to indicted on like two dozen things and they need to move fast.

Not that Trump actually pays his lawyers with his own money. If at all.

Absolutely, but having to retain attorneys (and the very worst ones) on multiple fronts can hopefully facilitate his convictions as well.

He just hired the "Billion Dollar Attorney".
Donald Trump has hired a prominent Atlanta criminal defense attorney known for defending famous rappers to represent him in matters related to the special grand jury that's investigating whether the former president illegally tried to interfere with the 2020 election in Georgia. Drew Findling's clients have included Cardi B, Migos and Gucci Mane, as well as comedian Katt Williams. His Twitter bio includes the hashtag #BillionDollarLawyer and his Instagram feed is filled with photos of him posing with his well-known clients.

I wonder how much money the guy will actually get.

I saw a thing on MSNBC this morning that Trump is raking in millions of
dollars in contributions since the 'gestapo' 'raided' Mar a Lago.

Mind boggling.

Of course he is. When the logic starts with the conclusion that the forces of evil are out to get him, the fact that there are multiple investigations into possible
criminal activity on various fronts Proves! that the pre-determined conclusion is correct leading those who hold that view to double down on backing him.
This conspiracy to keep him out of the power that was so wrongly taken from him means their hero needs them now more than ever.
