Lefty Jr got an appointment through work now that DC has lowered the age to 16 for shots as of today. He'll be Pfizer'd at Walter Reed Hospital this week.

He has promised me he won't ride around the block in a limousine waving to the crowd of well-wishers afterwards.

Agreed, this is literally a one in a million chance that it will happen (6 blood clots reported among 6.8 million vaccines administered).

and they can't even definitively link it to the vaccine, and even if they did they'd just add a warning, they wouldn't scrap the vaccine anyway, and MORE PEOPLE will die from blood clots as a result of slowing the vaccination rate.

ugh.

Had my second Moderna vaccine on Sunday. Woke fine but for a sore arm. Then, by mid-day Monday I was in bed, simultaneously shivering and feverish. Body aches. Subsided by 7 pm. Six hours of misery beats the alternative. Get your shots.

CDC calls for an immediate halt to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after six people developed blood clots.

The risk of blood clots associated with:

J&J vaccine: 1 in 1 million (.0001%)
COVID-19 infection: 160,000 in 1 million (16.00%)

What worries me about this is that it gives oxygen to the vaccine deniers. And that makes it harder to achieve herd immunity and defeat the virus.

Yes. That's my thought too.

And, Obama's successor just lashed out at this news, saying this was an FDA conspiracy between them and Pfizer against J%J. (Woody Johnson was one of his supporters).

Does anyone personally know anyone who refuses to get a shot or two?

I have a few MAGAesque friends, they've all gotten vaccinated or are at least half-vaxed.

Access to vaccination has been a bigger barrier to people getting vaccinated than anti-vaxer-ism by a magnitude of several degrees despite media coverage/Democratic Party talking points being the exact opposite.

my parents aren't getting them and are annoyed that we're taking this seriously. *sigh*

Yes, but at some point there will be a tipping point, where the supply will be greater than the demand. Hard to say when that will be, but it might be within a few months.

I know a few. The excuses are:

'It was rushed and not fully tested' (The J&J news plays right into this)
'I don't know anyone who's died from it- it's all overblown.'
'I've made it this far and I'm in perfect health'
'We'll see- don't bug me about it'. (Which means no)

This is usually said with a mask around their chin. And that's not even getting into the Bill Gates microchip stuff. These are somewhat rational people in their daily lives, which is why I'm betting that we don't get more than 65% of the population vaccinated no matter how hard we try.

And if you think it'll be hard to get THEM vaccinated, just imagine how hard it'll be to get their KIDS vaccinated. It won't happen. Vaccine passports are the only way we'll get the number higher. If Bubba can't take the family on a plane to Disney World, things might change.

I'm glad some universities are requiring vaccinations. I hope that they continue to be allowed to do this, and that most other universities follow suit.

Then maybe it would be issue worth discussing in a few months. Right now hearing the "Smarter Than You" establishment Democrat types going on about "dumb hicks" being anti-vaxxers when people who desperately wanting the shot are getting shutout is a an excessive amount of cognitive dissonance.

There's also a lot of people, especially in the Black community which has a history of being used as guinea pigs for these kind of things, who are understandably waiting to see how it works first who are being unfairly tagged as "anti-vaxers" as well. I guess because calling people names worked so well for the last guy that these Dems are trying the same approach.

I mean, the vaccine is widely available, the J&J nonsense today aside, at this point. People should be getting vaccinated. I don't know who's calling people names, democrats are idiots too and this has been handled extremely poorly. But billions of doses have happened, anyone 'nervous' should probably be over it by now.

If you're a white person who has a history of positive experiences with the medical field, yes.

Again, saying "get over it" really isn't the best messaging if you actually want to encourage someone to do something.

Not blaming Ceetar for this as he's not in a position of power. My beef is with the actually people of influence who have the same attitude and are making it known publicly.

An ass't grocery store Mgr I know had to deal with a phone call from an older, likely black, woman telling him the Pharmacy in his store shouldn't be giving the vaccine because it, among other things, was spreading syphilis to minority communities. Her attempt to organize a boycott was to follow.
