The park I used to play in as a kid in Inwood is burning with a brush fire now.

The Manning brothers and the Kelce brothers are everywhere but the Mannings are really annoying.

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
I’d say the opposite
Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
I have a service that rakes my leaves every fall. But there's one f**king red maple on our front yard that always waits until the truck is disappearing over the horizon to give up its leaves. That happened this week. As my wife and I will be raking this weekend, we'll be muttering how we're going to have it taken down next spring.
That is, if the snow on top of the leaves melts.

Why do you rake? Leaves are good nutrition for your lawn. I do not understand why people rake.
They will not be there in the spring. Check out a forest. What do you think happens to the fallen leaves.
Rant over.
Ps if you cut down that tree I’ll be mad at you

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
Because my wife wants our lawn to look as leaf free as the neighbors'. (Most of them don't have trees on their front lawns, but so far, logic hasn't worked)whippoorwill wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 12:30 pm Why do you rake? Leaves are good nutrition for your lawn. I do not understand why people rake.
And, don't worry, we've been talking about taking the tree down for years and haven't done it because it is so beautiful.

So keep it :)
We got some of ‘those neighbors’ a year or so ago and they are a pain in the ass.

Yeah, we have a rather large red maple in front of our
postage-stamp sized lot and it's always tardy with the
leaves falling. It's only about 1/3 done but there's a ton
of wet leaves all over the place and they have to be at
least piled up or we look like the shitbag neighbors who
don't keep the street looking nice.
Heading out shortly...

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
yeah. i mean, if you really wanna splurge, go to a local meat market or butcher or something, and you'll get way, way better for a lot less. so it's more of a splurge in effort than money, but still a splurge.metirish wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 3:33 pmmetsmarathon wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 3:23 pm many many years ago. it was alright, i guess. i ain't clamoring to get more.

I have been stuck at the Detroit airport all day, after the first flight was delayed and the rescheduled second flight had a five- hour layover. I believe I have now heard every secular Christmas song multiple times.whippoorwill wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 2:34 pm I think this is our fourth snowstorm already this year!

Speaking of Xmas music (as Cooby has done like four times in a row here): Who is responsible, and when was it decided, that 'My Favorite Things' is a Christmas song?

Heard that one today!
Just arrived in Dallas for an adventure that started at 6 am.
I actually love Christmas music. But after about six hours of the secular stuff I was craving some carols!

I suppose it's because it mentioned wrapped packages?Frayed Knot wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:40 pm Speaking of Xmas music (as Cooby has done like four times in a row here): Who is responsible, and when was it decided, that 'My Favorite Things' is a Christmas song?

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2024
Even there it's 'brown paper packages, tied up with string' ... not exactly suggestive of Christmas gifts.
Meanwhile, it's from a scene within a movie that takes place during a thunderstorm in the mountains of Austria.
And if there's a thunderstorm in Austria you can be pretty sure it ain't happening in December.
And that's all before you get into the whole 'raindrops on roses' stuff.
There's fraud going on here if you ask me!

I broke 500 in a scrabble game this morning (510) behind 3 bingos (MAGNETS, COASTERS, ERODING) and numerous other lucky breaks.

Next time you're on a long boarding line (plane, train, etc.) yell out "It's a cookbook!" to see who gets it.
