Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's The Ghost of Jim Crowed tour kicks into high gear just in time for the Summer.

A few weeks ago, Alito had the utter audacity to gaslight every sentient person in this country by suggesting during oral arguments before SCOTUS, that prosecutors can't be trusted to not harass former Presidents and so the only logical solution would be to grant Presidents carte blanche to commit whatever crimes they see fit. Seriously. Then Alito was found to have flown seditious and treasonous flags at both of his residences.

Yesterday, Alito's rampage over Democracy continued as he shredded what little was left of the Voting Rights Act, essentially ruling that so long as State governments state that their racially gerrymandered districts aren't racially gerrymandered, courts are obligated to believe them and give them every benefit of the doubt. RIP, VRA. In a concurring opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas writes that Alito's decision didn't go far enough and sets his sights on Brown v. Board of Education. They're not even bothering to hide their partisanship and utter contempt for democracy and the rights of minorities. This reprehensible decision might go down in history as offensive as Dred Scott and Plessy v Ferguson. We are now officially back in the Jim Crow era.

So how many more gut punches before it finally sinks in that the only solution is to pack the court? Or else, what? Wait 35 years and cross your fingers, hoping that when Gorsuch and Kavanaugh decide to retire, they'll both retire under Dem controlled administrations? That's a strategy?

DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST #1: Can we come up with anything dumber and less leaderly than Clint Eastwood debating with an empty chair.

DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST #2: Damn it! We have to try!

That's all for show. They haven't supported anything Biden proposed (legislation or nominations) since he has been in office.

In case you've ever wondered "Who are those people"? I'm one of the people who participate in these poll. I get about one per week, some are product related , some are political.
According to Newsweek, a YouGov poll showed a massive decline in his approval ratings. Fifty percent of the U.S. adults surveyed said he was guilty, while 30 percent said he wasn't. Another 19 percent said they were unsure, with the poll posing a margin error of plus or minus 2.3 percent.
When analyzed further into party factions, 15 percent of Republicans think he is guilty while 64 percent do not, 48 percent of independents believe he is guilty while 25 percent do not, and 86 percent of Democrats believe he is guilty while 5 percent do not.
A total of 831 Republicans, 1,114 independents, and 1,113 Democrats were surveyed, as the margin of error of the subgroups remained unclear.

Some in Congress threaten to work slower and slower in protest of
the Orange Jesus guilty verdict. They haven't done jack shit in how
many years now and they're gonna slow it down?

47 Republicans are now on the record as opposing a national right to contraceptives. The ignorance displayed in their answers shows how out of touch they are. No, IUD's and the 'morning after pill' don't cause abortions, idiots.

Some said it wasn't necessary because they'd NEVER go after contraceptives. Just like they'd NEVER overturn Roe v Wade. Any woman under the age of 45 who votes for any Republican is insane. And for that matter any woman over 45, too.

Schumer's teeing up more of these votes. IVF is next. Should be fun for the Fundies.

I've come around to the idea that the Republicans are not as stupid as they sound. They're simply repeating the party line. They're taking marching orders from the ultra conservative Christian coalition, who runs the party. They're religious fanatics and they believe that they're spreading the word of God. And so they won't compromise even an inch and can't be reasoned with. Because they speak to God, so they claim. And because, how the fuck do you reason with someone who, back to the wall, pulls out their fucking bible and tells you that "but the bible says this"? The GOP is in bed with them. These nutjobs want it to be like the 17th century, where women are nothing more than homemakers and babymakers and the only people who should have any real rights are white, relatively affluent people. And the only sensible education is one that is heavy on religion. And so because the GOP isn't permitted to reach out to women and minorities, it has no other choice but to suppress the vote and to ruthlessly exploit all of the weaknesses in our terrible and outdated system that elects politicians in order to get votes.

Our GOP State Rep, who is a female, voted down a bill to hand out tampons and maxi pads for free (admittedly I don’t care one way or the other, but…) because she thinks it would LEAD TO COMMUNISM.

I don't suppose she spelled out exactly how that would happen?

I guess she's probably thinking "slippery slope".

Here’s a Totally Sane Republican Argument: Offering Free Tampons to Students May Lead to Communism

I think we need to have a day in which we all ask forgiveness for electing theocratic buffoons to high office, but I've always been an apostate that way.

We start this week in Pennsylvania. Oh, look, here’s a real nut. From the Pennsylvania Capital-Star:

Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Clinton) objected to language in the bill’s co-sponsorship memo which referred to menstruating “people,” and said on the House floor that the legislation was “just another step by the governor and Democrats to have government provide everything for you, which leads to communism. A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything away.”

Mother Sister Borowicz has made quite a mark on the Pennsylvania legislature in the five years since she first got elected. On the day Pennsylvania swore in its first female Muslim legislator, she delivered an invocation that declared that “at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bend.” During the pandemic, she proposed a bill that called for a statewide day of atonement, because “it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow; and with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth.” I think we need to have a day when we all ask forgiveness for electing theocratic buffoons to high office, but I’ve always been an apostate that way.

i'd love for each of these idiots, by the way, to take a middle school civics exam.

like, each time you say the word "communist" you have to define it for a 6th grade history teacher, and post your grade online.

i'd love it if we had people who actually know what the fuck they're talking about be in office, instead of the loudest shouters of scary shit.

oe: jesus christ. i just had a nightmare vision of a future where Steven A Smith and Colin Cowherd win the presidency. wait... that's actually a better FAR alternative than trump, so...

Omg I love this!! I was SO hoping it was noticed non locally.

This broad is going to win again this November btw because we Democrats threw two perfectly capable and wonderful candidates up against her twice, and lost, and now we’ve got a dud that I won’t even vote for.
I’m thinking about writing in a name.

There's some stories in that Esquire report — and I kind of hate the way that's written, by the way — from North Idaho.

My friend Karin is a judge in Coeur d’Alene, and every now and then I check online to see what's on her docket, and man, the crime scene up there is filled with some really ugly, hateful, societal breakdown shit.

Not white-guys-go-a-hunting-for-minorities type of stories, but a lot of really fucked-up intrafamilial murder plots and that sort of thing.

I read them too and wondered what the father of the graduate had against the Superintendent

I also noted that they mainly seemed to be basically centered on poking mean fun at the Midwest.
Classy.

But anyway I still love that Stephanie is one of the poke-ees.
