We know what must be done. But our representatives (state and national) don't have the balls to do it. They let the NRA (And NRA money) stand in the way of good sense.

Marjorie Taylor Greene probably considers fellow Georgian Collins a weak kneed liberal because he only fired his weapon once.

It was allowed to expire in 2004. If reinstating it is 'extremist' then we're pretty far gone as a country. Because these guns are the biggest problem. As violent a country as we are, the biggest issue is the easy availability of a weapon that can kill dozens of people in seconds.

Yes, it's about the guns.
Other countries have mental illness. Only America has mass shootings.
Other countries have angry, frustrated people. Only America has mass shootings.
Other countries have video games. Only America has mass shootings.
Other countries have white supremacist movements. Only America has mass shootings.
Other countries ban prayer in public schools. Only America has mass shootings.

It's pretty simple. When you solve it as a problem, removing all the other factors, it comes down to the easy availability of weapons of mass destruction. It's why we have these mass shootings and other countries don't.

Well, apparently we are referring cases to local law enforcement, who are apparently underequipped.

Student denied making threats? How did multiple people cite them then? Was this SnapChat? Did the threats disappear? Did the reporters grab screen shots?

Did either the local law enforcement or the school do any followup? Did the FBI inform them of how to do that followup? Did the FBI follow up with the local police or school?

Will the father be held criminally responsible or civilly liable? Can we at least get consensus on that matter? Do we need legislation or is that up to the courts?

Can the next parent discovered to be allowing children access to their weapons be held criminally responsible or civilly liable before a shooting?

I hope criminally liable. Since murder is a State crime, the individual legislatures would have to pass laws assigning liability to the parents in cases where they knew beforehand that the child needed help. Of course, the NRA will oppose such laws, which would be too late in this case.

Yes, criminally(if those laws are passed).

Biden was quoted as saying the father should be arrested.
That is going to raise some interesting legal issues about where the father can get a fair trial.
This could get interesting.

i mean, can the victims families expect a fair trial in gun-fucking georgia?

its silly to think that the president saying he should be arrested would affect the trial. in white georgia, that seems just as likely to exonerate the fucker in the eyes of a prospective jury pool than not.

So is it too late to talk about the last mass shooting or too early to talk about the next mass shooting?

I guess if there are two attempts on an ExPresident/Presidential candidate and still nothing gets done, we’re doomed.

There had been a ban on automatic weapons and Bush let it expire.
The number of lives that would have saved boggles the mind.

I was hoping you'd ask!

The answer is "opponents of gun regulation." They want you to believe that all attempts to regulate the manufacture, distribution, sale, licensing, possession, and operation of firearms is useless, hopeless, and futile. They aren't. Nor are investigations of the lobbying activity of the gun industry pointless.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice, and all that. And bad people can't walk away with clean hands forever.

Here's one way to reduce the school shooting threats.
A Florida sheriff fed up with a spate of false school shooting threats is taking a new tactic to try get through to students and their parents: he's posting the mugshot of any offender on social media.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/florida-sher ... 17665.html
If I'm a parent, I'd want to know who is threatening my kids.
If he does it again, I would put up the parents' pictures, too.

A nice thought, but sometimes the arc doesn't bend. There are hundreds of millions of guns out there; you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. 'Coming for the guns' is every prepper's fever dream.
