First Lt. Benjamin R. Cross, 26, of Maine; Cpl. Nathaniel F. Ordway, 21, of Kansas; and Pfc. Ruben P. Velasco, 19, of Los Angeles were killed after the MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft in which they were riding crashed, according to a Marine Corps press statement.

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing ... australia/

How many more service members will have to die in Osprey crashes before the Government retires that death trap from duty? More service members have died in non-military action in them than in actual combat. They were deemed dangerous during their original tests and were pulled from service until the problems were "studied". They were put back into service and they still are dangerous.

It is the latest deadly crash to involve an Osprey aircraft, with numerous accidents involving Osprey military aircraft reported over the years.

In 2022 five US Marines died after their MV-22B Osprey plane crashed during a training mission near Glamis, California. The same year four US service members were killed when their Osprey crashed during NATO training exercises in Norway.

We've never seen the results of that study, and I read military aviation magazines.

Two more passings from the world of pop music: Steve Harwell, “All Star” singer from Smash Mouth, 56; and Gary Wright, who brought us aboard the “Dream Weaver” train, 80.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

David McCallum - 90 star of Man from U.N.C.L.E and NCIS.
I'll miss Ducky on NCIS. Tonight, CBS is running three episodes in honor of the show's 20th anniversary. I'll be watching my favorite show. RIP

In 1984 I rode an elevator with David McCallum. We talked about Mario Cuomo's speech at that year's Democratic convention, which had occurred the night before. He thought the speech was good.

Fair horizons to Senator Dianne Feinstein, longtime representative for California in the upper chamber, senior member of the Intelligence and Judiciary Committees, and San Francisco mayor after the assassination of her predecessor George Moscone.

When City Supervisor Harvey Milk was killed in the same attack, she was the one who found his body.

Fought for and got an assault weapons ban in 1994. This country might be a different place if it hadn't been allowed to expire in 2004. Feinstein stayed just a little too long at the fair, and the last few years dimmed what had been a solid career.

Newsom is a bit boxed in as he's pledged to nominate a) a black woman and b) not anybody currently running for Senate. Essentially a 15-month caretaker.

But at least there will be a Democrat there to show up and vote. Dianne missed some because of age/ illness.

RIP.

She was able to vote by proxy in any topic where her vote mattered.
She may not have been knowing what she was voting for, but neither do most Senators.

Hat tip to Charles Feeney, businessman who became a legend late in life after being found out to have quietly given it all away as it was coming in, having donated over $8 billion while living out of his small apartment with no car.
